Accepting Responsibility

The QB Room Has Never Been Deeper! (TM)

In all seriousness, I don’t blame people for getting excited. That’s what fans do. It’s just that this place has dramatically overrated our talent for 20+ years now.

I’ll never forget how people thought we were bigger, faster and stronger than ever in the summer of 2002. We’d be better even without Freeney and Harris! That’s literally when I stopped paying any attention to pre-season talent scouting here. We’re just too biased and optimistic.
Do we still have that transfer? I was high on CDRW after he came in against ND throwing dimes, but I’ve seen nothing good since then.

Didn’t we get another 4 star SEC transfer? Is he still in the fold?

Davis has looked very shaky but yes 4 star from Delaware we received in the trade for Sellers.

Only it’s not a QB room…it’s more like a broom closet. And only one QB is allowed in the broom closet. The rest have to hang around in the hallway.
I'll never understand coaches who're unwilling, or unable to adjust.
With Dino you can pretty much tell whether we'll be in a game or not. And if we're getting crushed by halftime, odds are they'll be no discernable change of strategy in the second half.
Too lazy to look it up, but how many comeback wins, ie; down 10 or more, has Dino had since he's been here? I can't seem to remember too many. That's Exhibit A showcasing an inability to adjust gameplans.

After thinking on it a bit I can’t think of many coaches that accept the type of responsibility that would show they were completely negligent in game preparation … but being animated about losing, saying it’s not acceptable, that’s another good way of being humble and accepting responsibility.

I think back to Shrader saying after UNC that we lack an identity on offense … that sounded like the product of a negligent coaching effort to me.

I was thinking I never remember Dino ever personally accepting responsibility for the losses or the way the team plays. Specifically stating it starts with him and it’s his fault that the team was not ready to play. Has there been a time this has happened in eight years?

He has. Last years loss to FSU he did profusely.

Did you see him against Colgate? Because I did ...
He fumbled more than he passed.

And this is where the stuff gets silly. If you go to his recruiting thread after he committed you literally have people talking about how he’s going to be our starter next year. And it’s crazy, because if you drill in deeper, he struggled against better competition in high school, his recruiting tailed off his senior year, most of the offers people were salivating over weren’t even commitable by the time he committed to SC, he was 5th on their depth chart, and transferred after getting bumped further down the depth chart by Sellers. Hasn’t provided any indication he can play against this level of competition etc. At least Lamson looked good in a few spring games against our players, Davis didn’t even have that.

We as Syracuse fans do this crap to ourselves.

The Maryland film comment was very telling.
That was the first sign of Dino's inadequacies and it has multiplied 1000x since that ill-fated comment

Not his fault he didn’t know.

I believe this was first trademarked in the Shafer era when we had some combo of Hunt, Ashton Broyld, John Kinder, AJ Long, etc.

Bursting with talent!!
What a great problem to have!!!

I think the guy is delusional about how he views himself as a coach. From limited access to media, to saying stuff about “I don’t want to share that as it may be an advantage to our opponent”, he’s insane. You’re terrible. The advantage the other team has is that you’re the coach Dino. He said about an injured player last week in press conference “I don’t want to say as it may be an Advantage to next team”. Insane

Lastly, to always use the “we have to see the tape” excuse, means you are so clueless during the game you can’t even share comments and bail out. I have watched every press conference, he never once said “I need to be a better coach”

Have always thought that too. If you have to go back and see the tape for something, how are you making in game adjustments?

My all time favorite is something about calling SU the king of fakes. It was a classic Dino so excited and proud. Still i can see him getting to 7 and being retained. Its just how SU rolls

There's a 4* QB commit who looks very good (in person). :)

However, if Dino & Beck get the boot, then he and the 4* Gadsden intern (who also looked good in person) will likely de-commit.

Rich Eisen has a "Today's Bill Belichek Press Conference Moment" segment, where he highlights some non-answer Belichek gave at a press conference. He's been doing it for years.

Its a rare thing for a coach to say anything significant in a press conference, which is why those moments end up being memorable. Almost every coach's goal is to say as little as possible, as diplomatically as possible and leave as quickly as possible from a press conference. I don't get too upset unless our coach makes national headlines with a press conference (like by reading a children's book or refusing to say he was retiring...).

I think if a reporter challenged a coach with your question (how are you making in game adjustments if you need to see tape to know what was happening?), the coach would just say he's got initial impressions but isn't willing to discuss them publicly without watching tape. Which I'd be fine with, just don't make national headlines is the only goal.
