But...but...he only has one title. How can that be???? ;)

He's a good coach and seems like a good guy. I like him.

I don't care much for Michigan State, but Izzo seems cool.

They almost always improve heading towards March and start playing their best ball then. Something to be said about that. He's got to be at or near the top of the list.

Part of why is his strategy of ALWAYS scheduling top teams OOC. This means more losses every season compared to other talented teams that schedule light. This leads to a worse seed on average compared to what they could have gotten that year if he scheduled cupcakes. However that preps his team and they tend to outperform their seed.

Yep. I like it.

The Buffalo Bills of the Final Four

Except they have a title (2000) to brag about. In any event, not saying you're doing this, I am not a Bills fan but it always strikes me as strange when people ridicule the Bills. I think the Bills getting to four consecutive SBs is a greater feat than say the Skins winning that one SB in the Bills four straight SB stretch. People also forget that the Bills were clear underdogs in 3 of those 4 games. We might get to SB 100 and not see a team get to four straight SBs.

but he didn't have head coaching experience before he became head coach...

LOL yes. But I was referring to him getting the MSU job without head coaching experience.

For the Bills:

Izzo typically schedules some really tough games early and takes some losses. JB likes to eat cupcakes and argues losing can't make you better. izzo and i would disagree. tough early competition shines a bright light on your weaker areas and gives you time to either address and correct them or work out some alternative strategies. nobody remembers december. it's all about march.

Over a long time period, Izzo is the best, but if you look at the ratio of wins to expected wins, Stevens and Massimino look to be the best. They outperform their expectations by a factor of 3, whereas Izzo outperforms his by a factor of 1.5. Now, Izzo sample size is far, far larger, and thus arguably more impressive. Still, I'd not want to be against Izzo or Stevens in the tourney.

Stop using old arguments that have no basis of fact anymore. This isn't 2005. We played tourney teams Nova, St.John's, and Iowa all before the new year this year. We beat Iowa and they still had a better year than us.
