According to the DOE, Syracuse made the 2nd most amount of money from basketball.

Some really strange blips on that radar. Cal? Dayton?

35.7 million. That's a big number.

That’s revenue only. The numbers have been posted before. It doesn’t include expenses. So I don’t consider it “made”. If I sell something for $5 but it cost me $3 to make, I “made” $2. And it costs a lot to put on an event at the dome. So that chart is deceiving.

Makes sense why Cal and Stanford are on that list then. Northern California cost of living expenses/prices are astronomical.

It is deceiving. The Dome is probably the most expensive building to run. But at least the school saved some with JAB's discounted salaries.

Hopefully JMA is paying some real cash for the naming rights and not just trading for wifi upgrades. Cuse lost some decent income over the years from their sweetheart Carrier deal that they were forced to take over 40 years ago, so hopefully something goes to the bottom line.

Is that just from ticket sales? And concessions? Does it count TV and radio money?
I would guess that it is income from all sources related to basketball

From what FY is this from? Given that SU is a private institution, how was this data accessed? For years, people could only speculate as to what coaches are being paid. Can't be retrieved via FOIA.

It costs a lot to put on an event at the Dean Dome, Assembly Hall, Rupp, Yum Center, etc too. Syracuse isn’t some unicorn of high venue costs. The Athletic department sometimes cries poor mouth but program is very profitable compared to others of similar status.

How do they know what TV revenue is since TV money is for all sports? How do they go about splitting it between football and basketball?

Because of the size and other things like bball attendance, I bet it costs more to have an event in the dome than most anyplace else. There were a couple years before JW that we ran in the red. But again, that chart is deceiving.

I suspect it’s not wildly different from other larger on campus basketball arenas. Just my opinion. Plus I think the ticket revenue potential far outweighs any additional costs to operate.

That’s revenue….not profit.
Until Syracuse's AD opens the books, that's all we have to go on.

But they are a very recognizable brand and the revenue reflects that.

It's from DeptEd, all schools receiving government money in some form or another have to submit financial statements. They're very general and basic without a lot of detail in there.

Dayton sells out a 13k capacity arena just about every home game and the cash from hosting the First Four every March. One of the better fanbases in college hoop.

I cannot stand them.

Probably helps to have Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to boost local economy.

It’s much less after they changed the roof. They used to heat the roof to nearly 95 degrees to help melt snow off the roof.
