Yeah. The "CEO" gimmick for Mercedes Mone is not it. It's an awkward moniker.
I know three syllable gimmicks are great for chants, but this just don't feel effective.
Yeah.
Speaking of three syllables, where has D M D been
I was bored on Sat and flipped on Collision. Lasted like 30 mins until I turned it off. it felt like an old WCW Sat Night show with Star vs Jobber matches, but in this era the jobbers got to do some cool moves. Outcome was never in question, nothing was built off the matches. As you said, just matches for matches sake. The PPVs when I catch them are still great, but there's no need to watch the weekly shows. You could miss a month and walk right back in without feeling like you missed anything.Just did their lowest rating ever.
The novelty of just giving their audience great matches has worn off.
They absolutely need to beef up the storylines. With three of the smartest minds in all of pro rasslin' on the roster, I'd give them more input on the story-telling--Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and Brian Danielson.
Much more of them, much less of Tony.
Yep. You spotted another problem. And Tony wants to add more.Agree that it reminded me of old (pre-NWO) WCW.
Seems like everyone has a title belt, which kinda means that nobody has one.
Vince Russo 2.0Just did their lowest rating ever.

No. The booking isn't ridiculous, not at all.Vince Russo 2.0
No. The booking isn't ridiculous, not at all.
It's just been--uninspired.
I'd add that Tony just has too much on his plate, and he doesn't need to. I mean, Jericho, who is at least ten years past his prime, keeps coming up with new ways to stay relevant. Brian Danielson, who is nearing the end of his career as a full-time wrestler, has one of the sharpest wrestling minds around.Well some of the booking has had some really bad stuff, but its certainly nowhere close to WCW ridiculous either. I think your use of the word Uninspired is most certainly a fair compromise.
I think I heard the other day that between 1999 and 2000, one of the WCW pay per views went down 85%, and most of them went down by over 50% year over year, and some by well over that. I don't think AEW PPV's will trend at that level. Fans are committed to the PPV's - I just don't know if there is a hook for weekly TV when its a lot of the same. Good wrestling, but nothing inspiring driving it.
To me the issue with AEW is too much of the same old. Lots of wrestling but nothing inspiring beyond that. I'm not crazy about all elements of the wrestling (but some of it is really good), but let's look at it from the fan who really like almost all the in ring stuff. You have 4 hours of week of really good wrestling matches without much of an inspired story behind them or just random matchups. You now almost have monthly PPV's that are long but generally deliver strongly.
That's a lot of wrestling to take in - what's the hook to keep you motivated to watch that much of it each week. I think its pretty easy for such a fan to pass on an episode and think they didn't miss much because nothing is really moving along.
I think one of the things that led to the WWE growth in the past few years was character development and character consistency in interactions. And they were on enough for that consistency to grow.
AEW has too many bodies. Cutting could help develop characters more and make things feel more important from week to week, rather than just tuning in for some good base wrestling.
On the DVR.. haven’t watched yet.You will never see a better match on TV than that 1-hour classic between Wil Ospreay and MJF on Dynamite.
A legit Match Of The Year candidate.
Just go watch it.
I have no idea why getting PPVs on MAX is taking so long. To me, their PPVs are the only thing worth going out of your way for and it's like pulling teeth getting them.BREAKING: The deal is official. Looks like AEW is getting up to $150 mill a year in the deal with WBD. Dynamite and Collision remain on TBS and TNT respectively, plus there will be a streaming component on MAX. Looks like they're hoping to sell reduced-price PPV's on MAX by the end of 2025.
No mention of Rampage, but there's been talk of a separate deal for one of the Fox stations.
Regardless of how you feel about AEW, this is great news for all of you pro rasslin' fans. Plus, don't forget how badly WWE sucked until AEW came along, forcing WWE to up its game.
Winners all around.
Yeah, especially since Bleacher Report and the like totally suck. I gave up on ordering a couple of them because they were harder than Chinese algebra (Tom Waits reference) to order.I have no idea why getting PPVs on MAX is taking so long.
