I saw them live at the State fair... last year I think? With my dad. Hammered. Him and I picked up a mom and daughter combo... It was a weird night.

Wonder if it were the same two that sat in front of my group at the Clemson game.

They've had a choice of songs that you're supposed to vote on twitter. They play the winning song toward the end of the game during the 3rd/4th quarter. Toto - Africa was choice d) today. I complained that all the songs were more than 20 years old at this point (Whitney Houston - I wanna dance with somebody; Brittany Spears - one of her 2,000 awesome hits that everyone knows the words to and loves to sing along with; and a third hit that was hot in 1978 - don't remember). And I used Toto as an example that I thought was outlandish. Didn't mean to insult the band or their music. I just thought the musical tastes of the person/people putting this together is outdated, just a tad.

I could have sworn the crowd was singing and dancing to to I wanna Dance with Somebody! I’m almost positive. I don’t remember hearing Africa and I like that song.

Do you think I slipped into a fracture of 5th dimensional space for a few minutes there? Because that’s my only explanation.

The Weezer cover has breathed new life into Africa.

It's both a throwback, and modern.
The song became a meme months before their cover. It was being played at college parties spring semester 2018.

Definitely. It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Yeah they played Whitney Houston, no one blessed the rains down in Africa tonight. I also left with 5:00 left in the 4th so maybe I missed it?

BRING ROCK AND ROLL PART 2 BACK TO THE DOME!!!

If that band never existed, the world would be measurably better today.

Song has made a huge comeback over the last few years - way before Weezers cover - maybe over taking don’t stop believing in terms of bar fun. A band out in Saratoga plays it to packed houses and the mostly 20 something crowds are hoppin to it. Good call by the dome

Didn’t. Happen.

I think Straight No Chaser should get credit for bringing 'Africa' back to the American consciousness where it belongs...permanently.

Didn’t. Happen.

You know, I’ll never forget being in the sold out Carrier Dome with 49,999 others singing “Africa” in the 4th quarter of a blowout win over UConn as we went to 4-0 for the first time in 27 years. Then the whole crowd cheered the team off the field and chanted “we want Clemson! We want Clemson!” Then all 50,000 stuck around for the alma mater. Ah yes, I remember it well.

“History is written by the victors” (Churchill), so, you are correct, sir! That’s what happened! And I was there, too!

(Not really...I was home in PA)

I saw many a old timer hardcore SU fan put away the scowls and sing along like a 14 year old chick to this song.

I love it

SO CLEVER! How much fun to be in that group! And very very funny.

Here's a pretty sweet instrumental of it, by world renowned piano player Peter Bence
