Are people going to be pissed here if he is the starter next year while we bridge the gap to Allen/Wilson/Hunt/Broyld?

The fact he's still the #2 guy on this team really shows that this is a possibility and unless one of the young guys makes major strides this year it may be the case.

Just wondering how many people would be writing posts each week bitching that bench options are better...

I'm okay with HCDM going with the best guy next year -- no matter who that is. Which QB gives us the best chance to win? That's the criteria. Not message board popularity contests, 40-yard dash times, or letters of recommendation from Bayou Groupies. Just win, baby!

Unless he's the second coming of Peyton Manning, there will be people complaining about him. It's an old adage, but also a true one, that the most popular player on any football team is the second string quarterback.

I will agree with any decision that Doug decides to make if it helps us win. The idiots on this board that have no program knowledge are going to be flipping a sht if Broyld's not the QB next year, guaranteed.

All sorts of crazy stuff gets said about guys on the roster this time of year, and when you bring up how weird it is that suddenly fringe guys are awesome other posters tell you you're an idiot because the coach said the crazy thing, and a coach wouldn't ever talk up a player beyond their actual capabilities.

So this is a roundabout way of saying that its a good thing Loeb is ridiculously good looking, because I don't think he'll ever see snaps as a QB.

Broyld? Pffffft. Broyld's yesterday's news, man.

Allen or bust.

If Allen isn't the starting quarterback next year then I will be disappointed.

Loeb is smart and knows how to run the offense efficiently, Throws a decent deep ball, but I have know confidence in him throwing the ball in tight windows. He puts too much air on the ball and doesn't show arm strength. With that being said, I can understand why he will be the next guy this year if something was to happen to nassib (knock on wood). But next year if he is the #1 guy I will be disappointed. I imagine Hunt, Allen, or Ashton can give us a better chance to win. Doug has express the need to run the QB more. Cant do that with Loeb. Kinder is not the guy or he would have been above Loeb by now.

I think Loeb has a good chance to start next year. Word is he's improved a lot and is easily the #2 this year.

Good point. Seems that while we are all hopeful that other prospects can improve alot have written Loeb off as never potentially improving at all. Meanwhile Loeb is putting in the work, knows the playbook, and has had QB specific trainers in past off seasons. Why couldn't he be the guy for a year? :noidea:

From the Rahme article: Marrone told me Loeb was probably the most dangerous runner in the group.

That seems to contradict popular opinion here.

BS It is obvious that loeb is not as good of a runner as ashton, hunt, or kinder. You have to be kidding me

Well, it's true that HCDM didn't say dangerous to whom, but that's apparently what he said.

Not that straight ahead speed means everything but if I remember correctly he had the best 40 time of the QB's last year.

I hear that Hunt is the next best player not Loeb.

Hunts barely been on a field. Maybe he wins the job next year, but that's a long ways off. As of today according to people who are workouts ans informal practices, it ia Charlie who is #2.

Is there a specific reason you think Loeb can't be as good of a runner as Broyld, Hunt or Kinder? Because that sounds a little bit...I don't know...how do you say...

If Loeb is the guy next year I just hope he's the 2nd coming of Todd Philcox. And your old adage is not relevant to SU. I have never heard one person say they wanted to see Loeb instead of Nassib over the past 3 years. I've heard many other names but never Loeb. If it is Loeb next year, I think it will be just another delay in ever seeing the type of offense many of us expected when Marrone was hired.

Maybe you heard this last year but considering he hasn't practiced since last December, it can't be said. Loeb has been a pleasant surprise from what I've heard and will be strongly considered to start next season. He certainly won't be a 5th year senior asked to move on.

Start the best guy, I would be surprised if it wasn't Charlie, when will people ever stop calling for a true frshman to start and I don't see broyld as a qb anymore, he's not there now. Depends on hunt but I think loeb will start

Was going to say pretty much the same thing. I'd take a Todd Philcox redux situation in a heartbeat.

the quote from Marone said he was the most dangerous runner. Not potentially, not the fastest. Never said he couldn't be. 40 speed doesn't mean your the most dangerous runner. But I will at least like to see evidence before I start bragging about someone. What have you seen in Loeb's last 4 years at SU that shows he's a dangerous runner. If so than he should have been in packages during the games. Dangerous to me means, Make people miss, break 50 plus runs, run over people at times. Stiff arms, Jukes. I just havent seen that from him at all. Not even in his high school days. Ashton, Kinder, and Hunt rushed for over 7000 yards combined in HS.

Bees Loeb reminds me a little of Philcox waited his turn got better each year and ended up with a very nice run in the nfl. Loeb throws the best ball of anyone on the team throws a very good deep ball and has NFL size. The only thing i dont like about him in the limited time i have seen him throw in practice is that he has a slow delivery which could improve. He is smart knows the O and is accurate. My money is on him to start next year

I don't care who is QB as long as its the guy who is the most talented of the QBs, because that IMO will give us the best chance to win games. Based on what I have seen so far from Loeb, it is hard to believe that he is that guy. IMO Loeb needs to "make major strides" just to be serviceable.

I also worry that Marrone still has an NFL mentality and believes so much in his system that he isn't willing to dumb it down for college kids. NFL/WC Os are complex. With a ever changing roster of young kids and limited practice, IMO it is better to try and keep things simple. Marrone has already shown several times that he will favor playing a kid that gives 110% in practice, knows the entire playbook front to back, and has mediocre at best talent over a talented kid who gives 90% in practice and only knows 80% of the playbook. That IMO is a mistake. You need playmakers out there in college FB and should tweak things to get those players the ball (let alone on the field) as much as possible.

So if Loeb gives us the best chance to win games (most talented QB), by all means start him. However if he is starting because he has the best grasp of the playbook (but not best QB), Marrone could be digging his own grave.
