This guy did locked down 8 guys and didn't even have a basketball game atmosphere to help him seal the deal.

We have reason for optimism. This staff has upgraded the recruiting class in such a short period of time. Great job by DB and his assistants. If we can improve on the field and I believe we will offensively the recruits will be there this really could be a Baylor 2.0 situation.

He was hands down the best candidate for our program's needs. Great hire.

Hope springs eternal when our record is 0-0. I'll get excited when I see them on the field.

The fact our recruiting class sits in the 40's right now is AMAZING. I mean that is recruiting. Dino Babers and staff have recruiting chops. We have upgraded in recruiting prowess.

They were talking college football recruiting on Neuheisel & Childers today on Sirius XM - they said a national recruiting expert told them that two programs won the weekend in recruiting - Michigan and Syracuse

When's the last time that was the case? Just a fantastic job - already getting SU back in the conversation. It's so great to have hope again - legitimate hope based on past HC results and tangible proof of a plan and execution. I couldn't be happier with how all of this turned out...

What happens when you hire a coach with a unique style of play and a track record of excellence in the system as a HC

Just think of how things will take off once we start showing we can win games, and prospective recruits get a whiff of our offense / how many points we're going to score.

Scout has this new news scroll at the bottom of their website. It was all Syracuse over the weekend.

One thing that has bothered me over the years is our coaches seemed to repeat and perpetuate the belief that it's hard to recruit and win here. Dino and his staff don't seem hindered by that and I think part of that stems from the fact that Dino chose Syracuse. He wasn't an accident of poor timing like Shafer or coming back to save his alma mater like Marrone. He is here because he thinks we provide an environment perfect for his system.

It has to be a lot easier to sell a place like Syracuse when you actually believe it's a place you can win. Six games a year in perfect conditions...how could a coach with Babers's system not want to be here? Not believing that Syracuse is a hindrance has to translate to his recruiting...or maybe these guys are just awesome at their job.

This.

I've been thinking about this since the hire.

"Babers felt moved by his Christian faith to accept the job at Eastern Illinois before he spoke with Briles about it, but a pearl of wisdom from that conversation also resonated with Babers. "The only jobs I've ever gotten," Briles told Babers, "have been the ones nobody else wanted."

The DNA of this offense is in Texas HSFB and not having the talent to compete. Briles then ends up a Baylor (a school with a much worse history/reputation than us) and does the same thing. Babers took this offense to a 4 win Eastern Illinois school and turned that around. BGSU was different in that they had success under TheWakeForestWeasel* prior - but that had been a story of a long rebuild, followed by Babers pushing them over the top.

The "Why not Syracuse" stuff from the press conference wasn't just fluff. I think it's tied to the DNA of the Briles offense. It's taking something "nobody else wanted" cough, Frost, cough and succeeded where it looks impossible.

And that's why I think he'll actually stick around for the length of his contract (and why he signed a 6 year deal, reportedly).

I think he will be here long term unless the Arizona job opens up. I think that is the one threat we face. Big time programs will want a younger guy. If they want the Baylor O that bad they will go after the Texas OC or Monty. As to peer programs I don't think Babers would leave, unless he isn't happy at SU. The one exception IMO would be Arizona. That is the one place he has been long term and it also had a big influence on him. I am rooting for RichRod to do well and not want to leave ;)
