I’ll continue to keep track of how teams did against ranked teams. Just something to look at in evaluating teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they played: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game.

Examples: Navy lost to #13 Notre Dame 3-42. The Middies get 13 points for playing the #13 team but lose 39 for losing to that team 3-42. Net points: -26. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season.

WEEK 7
Arizona beat #19 Washington State 44-6 = +45
Notre Dame beat #10 So California 48-20 = +44
Pittsburgh beat #14 Louisville 38-21 = +29
Washington beat #8 Oregon 36-33 = +21
Oregon State beat #18 UCLA 36-24 = +20
Missouri beat #24 Kentucky 38-21 = +19
Oregon lost to #7 Washington 33-36 = +16
Arkansas lost to #11 Alabama 21-24 = +12
North Carolina beat #25 U of Miami 41-31 = +11
Oklahoma State beat #23 Kansas 39-32 = +10
Vanderbilt lost to #1 Georgia 20-37 = +8
U of Miami lost to #12 North Carolina 31-41 = +4
Texas A&M lost to #19 Tennessee 13-20 = Even
UCLA lost to #15 Oregon State 24-36 = -1
California lost to #16 Utah 14-34 = -10
Purdue lost to #3 Ohio State 7-41 = -11
North Carolina State lost to #17 Duke 3-24 = -12
Syracuse lost to #4 Florida State 3-41 = -16
Indiana lost to #2 Michigan 7-52 = -21
So California lost to #21 Notre Dame 20-48 = -23
Auburn lost to #22 Louisiana State 18-48 = -26
Massachusetts lost to #6 Penn State 0-63 = -43

Eight ranked teams were upset. Florida State wasn’t one of them. They won by the second largest margin of any ranked team. But four teams did worse than we did, by the ART measure. And two of them were Auburn and Southern Cal.
