Class of 2025  AJ Dybantsa (MA / ProlificPrep)

People have been harping about the numbers we hear for top players (usually high six figures) are inflated and they don't get close to that. Seems like they might. And the market is shooting up year over year at a wildly rapid pace...so far at least.
Dybantsa is like Flagg. They are going to be one of the top 5 players in the world at some point. He’s the exception.

Sure, $7-8m is def the exception, but there's lots of people and media saying the $750k or $1m deals are inflated and they're probably getting half. Maybe true the first year of NIL, but I think the competition drove the market up and the top players are actually getting that kind of money. The transfer center to UW was rumored to get $2m and he's not a generational talent. I mean we have Eddie Lampkin at like 800k I think. Hopefully it's a gold rush and it comes back to earth, which it might not because sports are big business, but this probably isn't sustainable for most programs.

I think part of the inflation into next year is part of the revenue sharing model in addition to NIL collectives still having to foot some of the bill. Typically we've been seeing like 2x every year in terms of the market increase, next year might be 3x.

The money is obviously a huge deal but it shouldn't be overlooked that Kevin Young comes from an NBA and G-League background. We'll see how it works in terms of wins and losses but they did beat NC State on a neutral.

multi million dollar NIL deals just might be a good thing for SU and other programs of our caliber. With AJ getting 7 mil, the standard has been set going forward for the top players. I would assume that the #1 2026 will expect 7 million or more, and it will set a schedule that could be something like 5 million for #2, 4 million for # 3 etc. This might cause the Duke's, Kansas etc from being able to snag all the top talent and spread the wealth.

I hope more players will be like AJ and go to the highest bidder which won't always be the same big names (unless they have NIL budgets in the 10s of millions). This could level the playing field which is sorely needed as I a, sick and tired of us being mismatched against Duke with its 4 or 5 all-americans.

How is this going to help us? We don’t have Mormon billionaire cash, let alone Blue
Blood donor money. This is all quickly turning into a world of have and have-nots.

Imagine Kiyan was a Carmelo level prospect and like Flagg or this guy. That's probably about what our fans would expect the program to find for him.

Interesting that it sounds like the University Honor Code has actually been helping them win big recruiting battles - How the Honor Code is helping transform BYU into a basketball superpower
Can't blame the younger generation for being less interested in alcohol in general. Drinkings expensive and to them illegal.

He only played 1 year of HS basketball in MA and that was at an ISL school I don't think his family wants him to ever set foot in Brockton again or at least interact with bad influences.

Utah Prep is in polygamy country wonder if BYU look the other way on multiple wives? If BYU used that as a recruiting pitch along with a bag of cash they'd never lose a recruit.

BYU does not.

It's actually the opposite, no alcohol and no premarital sex (you will get expelled). So the pitch was focus on basketball/less distractions, get coached by an NBA assistant, and get paid.
