a game for next Friday versus Navy. I guess they didn't think there was any chance of getting out of Syracuse with two wins.

As a side note, FWIW, stubhub is great. I just picked up 8 tickets for tonight's game at 2 bucks a piece. Even with the charges it came to 26 bucks total. I'm bringing my kids and some of their friends. They don't care that its Albany, all they care about is seeing SU in the Dome.

This isn't a real tournament. SU is grandfathered into the MSG game regardless of the outcome tonight.

This is true ... it is a real tournament format. SU has to win its way to MSG ... duh ... not that they put anybody of any significance in their way ...

ok, dumb follow up question...when are the MSG games then? I am trying to figure out which gap in the schedule we play in the Garden.

Which is why Albany scheduling a home game against Navy next Friday at 4:00 p.m. is interesting. Nothing like telling your team you have NO WAY of beating Syracuse.

Yes ... that is interesting ain't it ... but actually they have no way in hell of beating SU.

Ummm ... I have the games for the NIT semifinals and finals on the 21st and 22nd -I better chack the NIT page.

Hypothetically, what would Albany do if they won tonight?

Wouldn't they have to take a forfeit in the Navy game?

Now this is really interesting and places great concern re: an institution of higher learning. According to the Albany schedule they are scheduled to play Navy on the 25th ... but they have the NIT finals and semis scheduled for the 21st and 22nd. A check with the NIT board clearly shows the semis and finals falling on the 23rd and 25th. Did anyone actually tell Albany the dates the NIT is being held ... and here is a funny what if

What if ... by some freak occurrence like all the schollie players for SU come down with severe appendicitis and only the walkons can play ... Albany wins!! And then by some freak occurrence they win next Wednesday and have to play in the finals on Friday the 25th ... Gee would they have to play 2 simultaneous games?

That, or get Navy to re-schedule.

It's also interesting that in their official schedule, they have themselves playing next Monday and Wednesday in the NIT. I realize that Albany thinking they could beat SU is a stretch, but at least let the game be played before you put in on your schedule as a loss.

Those teams that don't go to MSG continue to play in the NIT on Monday and Tuesday next week at sites to be determined. Albany's schedule assumes that they will lose in the Dome, and not be playing in MSG, thereby having them play early next week.

They would play in the consolation of the NIT on Friday, even if they lost on Wednesday night, which would still conflict with the scheduled game versus Navy.

Sheesh ... that would be discouraging ... "Hey guys, we're not going to win so we are scheduled for next monday and tuesday ... but just think ... we play Navy on the 25th!"

Sorry ... that's right... they would play in the early consolation game ... why do they call it a consolation game anyway? What is consoling about playing for 3rd and 4th place?

'Cuse must win or not go to next game...format was changed.
format did not change, preseason NIT/maui has always been a true tournament, it is some of the newer ones that have this new style

I'm sure the Navy game was contingent on not reaching NYC, and that Navy is compelled to reschedule.

Fairly sure this is correct. This is also part of the reason the newer tournaments adopted the newer format with the highest seed automatically advancing - everyone needs to block out a week of the schedule or do contingent scheduling like Albany appears to have done.

I doubt having all the next round games on the same day isn't an option - the NIT wants the Wednesday-Friday of Thanksgiving weekend for a betterr TV slot, while none of the mid-majors are going to want to get shipped to another mid-major to play in front of twelve people the day after Thanksgiving.

I think the losers play a pod on those dates.
