He said he would play both. He did not say he would play Shrader “for a whole game.”Also, that’s literally what Dino said he was going to do when he said “we will see both”. My suggestion, is instead of playing a series here and a series there, just give him the whole damn game. We’ve seen how it killed momentum against Rutgers, why the hell would we continue to play patty cake. Just give him a game and make a decision.
Disagree from the standpoint that it can give certain players/groups a chance to demonstrate focus and consistency. I sincerely hope the game isn’t close enough to demonstrate we can pull out a win. But if I were coaching I would approach it as though there was some urgency to performance. This game is utterly meaningless and will tell us nothing.
We'll see. My hunch is that we'll treat this as a glorified scrimmage, run the ball a ton, "not put things on tape", and all that jazz. There's nothing in 6 years of Dino's tenure that makes me think this game will do much of anything for the program, other than lock up our annual FCS win.Disagree from the standpoint that it can give certain players/groups a chance to demonstrate focus and consistency. It’s true that players who have experienced a lot of pressure from losing may need to relax and have fun. But IMO the time for fun is over. Approach this game like it’s the most important game of the year for the team. Yes, play a lot of kids on the roster if you can. But make it clear to anyone on the 2-deep that their positions are on the line.
I acknowledged that. I’m just saying in my opinion it would be better just to give Shrader the game and then make a concrete decision for the rest of the season. He said he would play both. He did not say he would play Shrader “for a whole game.”

Watched the quarterback not playing on Saturday and you are very correct regarding body language. My seats are six rows back of the Syracuse bench. QB not playing spent entire game by himself and never once clapped or cheered his teammates on. Only contact he had with a teammate was during a time out he and Markiewicz or McPhail would play catch and then once play resumed back to being by himself.Tisdale might not be the biggest problem. I finally watched again. Vettorello really struggles when the DL stunts. He just doesn't react quick enough.
Tisdale did get away with a pretty blatant hold on the Tucker TD run. Head ref had a good view of it from the replay they showed on the broadcast. I think he gave us one back on that play. He wasn't the one who called the unsportsmanlike, it was a side judge I believe.
From limited sideline shots, the body language of the QB not playing didn't look great. Just hope Dino knows what he's doing, and hate that I don't think he does.
Dino is determined to go down with the ship as all good captains do.About 5 games in to the 2019 season I said Tommy isn’t our guy and I was crucified for it. What he lacks you can’t teach. You either have it or you don’t. Here we are two crappy seasons later and we’re in the same position. I was hoping he would transfer after last season because I knew Dino would play him. Cut the cord and move on from Tommy for the love of god.

As all dumb captains do when there are enough life rafts for everyone.Dino is determined to go down with the ship as all good captains do.
Love this. If anyone needs a larger sample size on Schrader check out how he did against LSU (National Champs in 2019) and Auburn (#13 in 2019), as a 19-year-old freshman. And if he doesn't work out, I too would rather lose with a 6"4" 230 lb QB escaping containment, evading linebackers, and occasionally kicking a safety in the head.Shrader needs a full game. The people who’ve posted negative remarks about Garrett, based on his limited time against Rutgers are absolutely ridiculous. Dungey and Shrader are very similar, in that they are athletic QBs that improvise. Shrader pushing that fumble out of bounds reminded me of a young Dungey decision making. Dungey, like Shrader, wouldn’t have made much with a similar opportunity because both QBs are going to make mistakes and need more than a limited sample size to access. I’m 100% sure that if Dungey was in the same situation as Shrader (transfer and all) he would look exactly the same as Shrader does right now.
I think we forget sometimes, some of the dumb things Eric did when he was here, throughout the years… at one point we wanted to bench him for Tommy. But Eric wasn’t great in short spurts, Eric was great because he found ways to compete and put the team on his back. Shrader needs a whole game, Albany would be a perfect opportunity to get him comfortable.
I remember a quote from Eric once that went something a long the lines of “7 on 7 doesn’t equate to live games” and he’s exactly right. That’s why we are where we are. This isn’t 7 on 7, this is real football and as much as we love our guys, we don’t have the same talent level as our peers in a lot of areas… that’s why we need a guy who can create plays and improvise.
If I’m wrong, fine. But it can’t get worse than this and I rather lose with a 6’4 230 QB kicking safety’s in the head.
