Alt Hawks are playing 90% 2-3 zone!

They beat Miami playing zone last night and are killing Chicago with it! and they don't even play it that well, but the opposing teams have no real zone offense and are getting killed in transition. Very ugly game though.

NBA coaches don't prepare for the zone. I doubt it will work for long, though. Unless the Hawks coach, like Boeheim, specializes in the zone.

I would love to see an NBA team go 80-90% zone. It would be interesting to see what would happen. The NBA have more bad shooters in it than ever before, but half the league is unguardable one on one.

When NBA is dominated by players like Lebron and Wade going zone pretty much neutralizes the dunk fests. Very interesting to see what happens if they continue on with it.

I think the increased popularity of it in NBA can only help us. It's been mentioned numerous times that a lot of programs recruit against us by telling top prospects that they will waste years playing a defense no one uses in the pros. Atlanta should start drafting more 'Cuse players

This is why Boeheim will long be remembered moreso than a Bobby Knight or a Coach K, regardless of success or lack thereof in March. He revolutionized the zone defense. No one is able to teach it like he can. It looks simple, but it actually one of the most intricate defenses in all of sport.

Not a bad idea for a compressed season like this to play some tavern league zone. It's not like teams have time to practice or scheme. They're working that stuff out during games. Zone might be a nice trick to still a W here or there for teams that have the personnel to make it work.

...was at Heat game earlier in week and Atlanta took the half court game away from Miami by dropping back in zone from either man to man and or press...Heat has not been taking 3 point shots on a regular basis this year...LJ hasnt taken 10 3 pt shots in 5 games...Hawks took Heat out of game and won...I think that the zone is gaining popularity throughout the pros and also collegiate ranks...and JB is considered one of the fathers--founders--of this defense.

if you watch Duke the last couple of years, they too are playing zone 30% or more per game...coach K has belief in it and in JB. Bottom line...all this zone stuff will help 'Cuse recruit very good players as they see pros and other colleges playing more zone.
