Tough to find much to disagree with there, but I found Hak's comment about Benny to be pretty disheartening, "But just stay ready. Coach is going to have no choice but to play you eventually, just be ready."

I don't even know where to begin on that. Why would anyone want to be stuck in a situation where they are waiting for their coach to have no other options than to play them!?!?

This style of bench "development" may have worked when kids were effectively trapped by their decision to attend a particular school but I think last year should've given everyone involved a good idea of how it works in the post-portal world.

Yeah plus the kid was embarrassed when he was put in with 3 minutes left. Absolutely no reason to put him in that spot other than to make a point. Ajak played 10 minutes and contributed nothing offensively.

Two comments - I share the frustrating truth of Hak's observation "Don't worry, the time will come when he HAS to play you. Just be ready." Ugh

The one I take issue is is Etan and Billy's comments about Kadary Richmond. He's not exactly tearing it up at Seton Hall. He's averaging just under 8 points, less than 4 assists, getting a couple steals but turning it over too much, and only shooting about 25% from three and in the 30s overall from the field.

I do think he is a better player than Symir. They are similar players. Richmond is a loss, but to the rotation. He wouldn't have been a star, but he would have been useful to break all these presses we see.
 
It’s kinda funny, reading what the alums say about their roles and how they were helping to facilitate their teammates’ roles. And when I’m watching our team this year, i‘m nit seeing any such schemes or tactics. We basically have iso, and then scramble mode when the iso guy can’t beat his defender and the clock is running down and someone is desperate to heave a shot up. There’s no sense of making plays for someone or getting the ball to someone where they’re most effective, or exploiting a defensive weakness… except for the occasions where Buddy has a smaller defender and can shoot over him. That’s about it.

That’s down to the proverbial ‘basketball IQ,’ but also just an indictment of our athleticism, because we don’t have the players to create or win physical battles, which would allow us to exercise IQ. It’s not that our players aren’t smart. They just have too much to overcome before they can even get to a point where they can outsmart an opponent.

I really don't think you understand the loss to the defense that Kadary transferring did to us. He was literally the perfect guard for the SU zone. Joe's defense looked better last year because of Kadary creating tough angles for the guards on the other team.

Basketball isn't all offense. Please try to remember that.

It didn't just look better, it was better, because of the team we had, inclusive of Kadary.

Joe's DBPM 2021: 1.4
Joe's DBPM 2022: 0.1

Joe's defensive win shares were also higher last year, but since this year isn't over, I don't want to compare yet b/c it's not apples to apples.

We used to have guards who could penetrate, and create mis matches, and either score or pass to an open man.

Kadary's defense was good, but that's where Symir (and Jalen Carey before him) are both pretty good, too. So I kind of consider that a wash on that side of the ball.
