Am I the only one tired of the absolute idiotic

I was just in Tallahassee and was impressed actually. Quite a few cool bars, cigar lounges, martini bars, restaurants, etc. downtown. I can't imagine gameday being weak. Way more going on around College Park and all those MD/DC communities. Chapel Hill is a NICE place. Except for Blacksburg there is WAY more to do in those places than in Syracuse. A no brainer.
How much time have you actually spent in Syracuse and the surrounding area? I can't imagine you have been here a whole lot with that comment. I lived in Freaking BOSTON for several years and could find the same amount of stuff to do in syracuse as boston.

I just find that to be impossible so we can agree to disagree. ;) For the record I grew up in Oswego with family in Syracuse/Rochester/Utica. Spent many summers in Saratoga (one of my fav towns anywhere) as well though that shouldn't count in the comparison.

Saratoga is a fine town. Trust me..its not impossible. There are a large amount of people in CNY that find it easier to make the claim that there isnt anything to do, instead of taking a few minutes to see that there is always events going on.

I don't know man. I love upstate NY. Grew up there, still love it in the summer/Fall, etc. And I agree that it gets a bad rap in many instances. I also would suggest that this argument in general has a lot to do with what you actually like to do -- if you like the outdoors and winter sports activities then there is no sense comparing Boston the city to Upstate NY the area. So maybe that's the argument you're making.

But in terms of comparing cities -- there are just certain advantages that major cities have in terms of attracting culture/performances/restaurants/entertainment/museums/etc. It's just not really possible for Syracuse to truly offer the types of activities that you're able to enjoy in NYC or Boston or DC. There's probably no point in arguing it b/c I'm not going to convince you that I'm not really knocking Syracuse, but I find it actually physically impossible for the city of Syracuse to offer as much as the city of Boston.

There may be MORE museums...but there are museums here. I guess if you need to have something to do every single night of the week i agree with you to a degree. Give me five activities that you can do in a city outside of Syracuse that you can't do IN Syracuse. This is your challenge.

Ha! I like the challenge but I don't think it's really close enough to get into that.

I mean, in DC, for example, I could ignore all the huge touristy things and still point to the Caps/Nats/Wiz pro sports franchises, the restaurants and nightlife in Georgetown, the Shakespeare Theater in China Town, the Kennedy Center, Eastern Market, ... the list goes on.

But it's so much more than that -- you've got the opportunities and areas to live and work. You can live/work in an area like Capitol Hill and work in the sentate/house buildings. You can live here and be in high-level academia, or work for the government or get into the K Street stuff, or work at one of a dozen huge, highly respected medical facilities or any one of a huge network of businesses and non-profits, high-powered law firms, huge publications, etc.

Now, don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying syracuse doesn't have cool places to live/work or that it doesn't have major advantages over DC. People literally go insane dealing with traffic here, the capitol hill stuff is as tiresome as it is interesting, there's crime, there's the cost of living ... the list goes on. But in terms of things to do and opportunities, it's simply tough for the Cuse to compare apples to apples on that.

<blah>, <blah>, <blah>, ...
One thing that you can't do in DC is go to an ACC football game, which is the basis for the original article.

Is there that much more to do in Clempsun or Winston-Salem? I didn't see anything when I was there.

These are two completely separate arguments. I admit, the thread wandered, but the poster I was referring to was saying that, without any qualifiers, Syracuse has as much to do as Boston. I was only suggesting that I just don't agree with that.

Now comparing Syracuse to the rest of the ACC? I don't know. I'd have to agree that it's unlikely there is a great deal more to do in Winston-Salem or some of those cities but I've never been there so who knows? The ranking is pointless but getting upset about it is even more pointless.

Actually I referred to a series of articles mentioned by syr.com slamming Syracuse and our program.

Ha! This is confusing. I was debating with Macky 44. I actually think this is a program that is in a pretty difficult spot right now, some of it their own doing (obviously on-the-field results and community engagement/participation have been uneven at best) and some of it out of their control (the wild spending everywhere and the state of college football in general). I would be surprised if there were lots of laudatory press surrounding the program at this point.

That's the best he could come up with? Nothing about Marshall Street?

The list didn't include one thing that makes this "one of the best college towns.

1. The author cites a new disco coming to town? First it's in Brewerton and second it's a freaking disco. Party school, cool, that works but there needs to be more than partying up at SU and people getting drunk in a massive mall.

2. So the author says that everybody in town bad mouths Syracuse but knock peoples teeth in for bad mouthing it, ok, we're proud, I get it. But the people here bad mouth it? I don't get it, so we're in agreement that Syracuse is the worst city in the ACC or not?

3. Ok, we're 40 minutes out from the finger lakes, I don't want to look at the 40 mil radius around the other ACC schools, I'm sure they can beat the finger lakes.

4. For basketball, I get it, the dome is awesome. Personally, I love the dome for all sports, unfortunately I'm not in the majority on what people think about the dome.

5. Snowiest city? By now I'm noticing that the author is trying to turn negatives into positives. Give me a break..

6. Line at the airport? Wow...

7. Almost every city in North America or in the world has awesome restaurants. Dinasaur as good as it is doesn't make Syracuse move up any list in the ACC.

This is a sad sad sad list, I'm not the biggest fan of the city itself here but I could make a better list than this.
