but don't discount the little know exception to the primary rule that states that if you've started every one of your team's games up to the point of injury but still played less than 10% of the total minutes possible you are free to redshirt. It's know as the James Arthur Boeheim Freshman Center Redshirt rule.

Whatever. This is odd. During the Villanova game, after the warmup in which he supposedly aggravated the knee, i noted that on one play, after an offensive possession, DC sprinted back down the court. I actually said to myself something about how he looked like he wasn't sulking for not having played, and he was showing hustle. Odd, now, to find that he was already so hurt at that moment that he now requires a significant surgical procedure. Too bad for him and us. I was hoping for some more opportunities for development and confidence going into next season.

Maybe he injured the knee weeks ago. The SU staff is fanatical about keeping injuries secret. Maybe it just got worse on Saturday and they finally felt it's better for DC2 to just go have the surgery now. The 4 week recovery time indicates it a meniscus scope. He could be back for the last couple of regular season games but given his overall conditioning and the likelihood he gains some weight from inactivity I wouldn't bet on it.
