An honest to goodness question for FB diehards

There have been a lot of great posts in this thread, but I'm not sure anyone can even define what a true fair weather fan is.
A fair weather fan is a fan who likes a team in good times (fair weather) and abandons them in bad times. It's not necessarily about attending the games in-person as many can't do that for a variety of reasons. I am a diehard hoops fan and attend only 1 or 2 games a year but I have been a non-wavering fan since the 70s.

Yeah, I didn't mean it like that. Obviously I know what being a fair weather fan is. I just think a lot of people "follow" the program as casual fans but aren't compelled to attend in person. I'm not sure that would qualify them as a fair weather fan. And then, it's a natural occurrence (not just in Syracuse) that if the team is very good that there will be more interest and higher attendance.

The football deal at $125 for a season ticket is a steal, the best deal in town. It used to be $99 but they upped it this year, probably because of the success at the end of the season. I've had a season ticket for 5 years now, the cheap seat. It was and has been the best money I've spent. The notion that tickets are expensive must be a carry over from the Gerg years, because they never lowered the cost until after he shoveled the dirt on the program.

There are some really good responses in this thread.

I will add one thing that pisses me off to no end. When you are out in the world and you are wearing some team gear (any team that you are a diehard of) and somebody stops you to start a conversation about them. You get excited to talk 'shop' about your favorite team, and then 20 seconds into the conversation it becomes readily apparent they don't know jack about your (and supposedly their) team. Like I've had people stop me to talk Cuse sports and weren't sure if Boeheim was still coaching the basketball team, cuz he's old. I've also had people talking Cuse football and not know that Ryan Nassib was our QB 2 years ago that claim to have followed the team religiously for decades.

I'm not expecting a random person on the street to know the name of that redshirt freshman DE we have that I think is going to be a monster with a shot at the NFL in two years. But in order to keep a conversation with me talking about my teams, you gotta know the minimum basics as in the biggest names on our roster and in JBs case that he is our coach. If you can't name the starting QB on the football team, you aren't a fan, fair weather or otherwise, so don't pretend you are. You are just a person who happens to have heard the name Syracuse and remember our color is Orange.

I agree. There are many types and as I have said in other posts, I think you can be a diehard fan without attending the games in-person. There are others who may attend like they may go to a movie that night. It's something to do but I would not consider them "fans". This thread started out asking the question why diehard fans didn't like fair weather fans so I stuck to that mostly.

Diehards are degenerate testosterone gamblers.

"In both studies, mean testosterone level increased in the fans of winning teams and decreased in the fans of losing teams. These findings suggest that watching one's heroes win or lose has physiological consequences that extend beyond changes in mood and self-esteem."
