And so it begins...Seth Davis "Ohio State played KU tough...

I'm surprised we haven't gotten the token "i dont want us to be ranked number one because we historically do bad when we are and its too much pressure on the kids and we need the underdog mentality" post yet...

Being #1 at this point in the season is meaningless. I would just like to stay in the top 10 or 5 at the end. BE play can kill ya.

BTW, good to be here.

OSU didn't just barely lose, they got whipped (shot 39 and 29% from 2 and 3 pt range). Sullinger or not, they lose that game to a 2-loss team. SU moves to #1.

Here's how I would rank top 5 this week:
1. Syracuse
2. Louisville
3. Kentucky
4. Ohio State
5. North Carolina

Here's my top 5.

1.)Syracuse (10-0)
2.)Louisville (9-0)
3.)Baylor (7-0)
4.)Xavier (8-0)
5.)North Carolina (8-2)

Kentucky may have beaten North Carolina, but they lost to a non-ranked Indiana team.

CBBall polls are meaningless. Also Ws and Ls aren't a big deal. Isn't the purpose of the polls to vote on who you think the best team is? And not who has the best record? If someone feels that UNC is the best team in the country then they should vote them #1 despite the 2 Ls. This isn't CFB where you reward for record.
Agree completely. As long as the voter is fair and partial, he/she should be able to vote however they seem fit.

Welcome, AJcuse.

True but " Were no 1 " Feels pretty good. Especially after having been dragged through the mud for the last couple weeks.

Were #1 End of story

Means Nothing one way or the other, The only thing that matter's is holding the trophy April 1st. If SU is voted #1 How about someone starting a Poll on how long they hold it and how far they drop when they lose. VCU wouldn't have made the Tourney last year without expansion.

Yes, this is my point. Think Uconn last year .. 9th in BE and #1 in the country when it counted. This is the ONLY #1 I give a hoot about.

This talk is nonsense. We are not a #1 team .. yet. The losing teams lost to good teams away .. we beat down a crappy team .. no comparison.

Bottomline: we didn't lose. SU is undefeated right now. OSU isn't. Duke, UNC and UK aren't. They all lost. This is how #1 has been decided in college bball polls for years. People who think OSU shouldn't drop?...ok I can see that. But be moved up and ahead of Cuse? No way. KU isn't THAT good. And neither is Sully. People are trying to apply SEC/Football logic to the bball poll.

And yes, Syracuse would be the only team to be questioned as a #1 by someone like Davis. You think he says that about Louisville if they were about to move up to #1? Hell no. If anything he'd be praising that they deserve it because they have been playing shorthanded. Their schedule has been pedestrian and not much different than ours, but Seth wouldn't mention that. It's Pitino after all.

You have to give Xavier conideration for top 5 team. They are the toughest team by far. They proved they can take a punch and get up again.

I view rankings as an assessment of how good a voter believes a team is. The polls should not be a system of merit/demerit based on wins and losses, as not all schedules are created equal. I don't subscribe to 'Team A lost, so they should drop no matter what." Personally, if you believe Team A is the best team in the country, hypothetically, at full strength, then a loss on the road to a top-15 team and playing without the best player probably should not change that opinion. Correct? If, then, rankings are supposed to reflect who the best team is... then vote that team No. 1.

I realize that rankings haven't traditionally worked this way, but IMHO, that's supposed to be the intent behind them.

Rankings are kinda silly, but I like the idea there is some objectiveness to it - lose and you drop. Otherwise UNC would still be ranked #1, with pollsters saying they know they lost two games, but on paper they're still the best team so they stay at #1.

UNC lost to UNLV. They would not still be ranked #1.

Bingo! If this team is No.1 for just one week it has to be a boost. IMHO they have gone through a ton of trash recently and there is not a more deserving team in the nation to be #1 now-period!

It's good to be ranked number one during the season regardless of what happens at the end. I wish SU was number one every year at some point during the season and top five the whole year, it would mean the program was doing well.

...Brennan from ESPN feels the same...OSU should be #1...we dont really care...maybe it will spur 'Cuse on to bigger and better...us against the nation...

I'm not sure about the rest, whether or not OSU should be #1 or whatever, but Sullinger is great. One of the 5 best players in the country.

I picked UNC specifically because Bilas said he still thought they were the best team, but wouldn't vote them #1 because they lost.

No doubt it feels good to be at the top.
