Andre Reed over Marvin Harrison | Syracusefan.com

Andre Reed over Marvin Harrison

Besides the off field incident, how does anyone believe Andre Reed had a better pro career than Marvin Harrison? I think Marvin is a definite HOFer and Andre Reed is border line.

its about longevity on being eligible that's why reed got in 1st since this was like his 5th or more year being eligible

Harrison has 150 more catches, 1400 more yards, and 41 more TD's then Reed. In 44 less games. Harrisons 1999 and 2002 where some amazing years.

Let's take a look at the accomplishments, blindly, of Reed and Harrison.

Player 1
951 receptions
13,198 yards
87 touchdowns
7x All-Pro
2x AP Second Team
Unknown to everyone under the age of 20.

Player 2
1,102 receptions
14,580 yards
128 touchdowns
8x All-Pro
3x AP First Team
5x AP Second Team
Super Bowl Champion
NFL's All-'00 team

Totally agree. And this decision all but secures Harrison's HOF induction.

It's a joke. Harrison has 41 more TD's in 3 less years. More yards in 3 less years. Was ALL PRO 3 times while Reed was NEVER All Pro!

Harrison got screwed. But because Reed works "Radio Row" every year at the Super Bowl while Harrison is locked in his basement hiding from the public Reed makes more friends and butters up the voters. That's all it is. Still embarrassing that Reed got in first.

The bottom line is that both of them are Hall of Fame Players!
Andre Reed isn't! lol. NOT EVEN CLOSE! He was never an All Pro in any given year!

Marv has 3 things against him: 1.) No relationships in the media. This is a BS excuse but it happens. There apparently was little discussion or debate about his candidacy among the writers... as if minds were made up in advance; 2.) Off-the-field stuff. Not a deal-breaker as a matter of precedent; and 3.) His postseason numbers were awful. The third one is a problem, IMHO. Of course, he has one more ring than Andre Reed. I think he gets in eventually, and deservedly so, but the playoff numbers need to be rationalized away.

Killers have to wait longer. Boohoo
Reed had to wait 8 years since he was first eligible. Marvin will make it next year (2 years). Conclusion: Andre Reed is a killer.

HOF voters are holier than thou, HOF's have a little bit of BS in the selection process, sportswriters like the guys who make their jobs easier, the players have friends

Disagree. Andre Reed should get into the HOF on his stones alone.

Between Harrison-Reed-Brown...Andre Reed has the worst stats of the 3 and he gets in while the other 2 are left out. It makes no sense on any level. The NFL HOF has turned into a popularity contest. No rational way to justify Reed getting in over the other 2 who have better numbers across the board.

Harrison and Brown have more TD's, receptions, yards... but Reed gets in. He was put in because he was a "nice guy." Not because he deserved it.

It's the equivalent of putting in Fred McGriff in the Baseball Hall of Fame over Frank Thomas. One clearly had a better career than the other.

P.S. - Harrison's gun incident(s) aren't supposed to be factored into Hall of Fame voting.

Honestly, I feel there is a stigma about what it means to be a "first ballot" HOF'er. As has been articulated above, Harrison's less than squeaky clean off field image and lack of sportswriter affection means he wasn't going to get a sniff at election this year. No doubt he gets elected, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Longer than otherwise would've. Goes without saying to anyone not on bath salts. Conclusion you are on bath salts

Everyone getting bent about Harrison not making it are getting bent over nothing. Reed was a HOFer, has waited longer, hence he got in this year. Harrison will be in within a year or two...he's in the queue. Trying to make the argument that Reed isn't a HOFer so Harrison should have gotten in this year just demonstrates to the sane posters that you are, in fact, insane and belong in an asylum.

Harrison will get in faster than Reed did.

I don't remember Reed being considered a nice guy. I remember him being known as a complainer and whiner.

These pencil pushing geeks are jealous that they don't have hands like a ninja, like Marvin.
