Looking to become just the second repeat winner in history, Syracuse sophomore Andre Szmyt headlines the thirty-player Watch List for the 2019 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Szmyt, just the third freshman to ever win the Groza, became the second kicker in FBS history to lead all players in points per game. If he defends his title, he would join former Florida State kicker Sebastian Janikowski (1998 & 1999) as the only players to win multiple Grozas. He is joined on the Watch List by two former finalists in Wyoming senior Cooper Rothe and Utah State senior Dominik Eberle, as well as ten other past semifinalists.

This is like '96 with all the young stars on the team.

You have players on offense, defense, and specials that made huge impacts in their freshmen and redshirt freshmen years. They were just filling gaps in the roster because there was no one else, they were named starters or advanced in rotations because they were better than the upper classmen ahead of them.

I would love to see him do this, but hopefully he can do it by going 20 for 20 on FGs and 70 for 70 on extra points. We need to convert some of those FGs from last year into TDs.
