Angeli has arrived

Right, but why don't we worry about winning before worrying about blowing anyone out. Tennessee wanted to blow us out and kicked a FG on their opening drive. And it was a decent win for them.

I could see if you are up 3-0 or 10-0... maybe you go for it there. 6-0 and 13-0 can be overcome by two TDs. But when it is 0-0 or tied... take the points. For all we knew, both QBs end up getting injured and the game ends 3-0.

I agree. You should take the points, especially early in a game.
But I didn't agree with your take on Fran's mindset in going for it on 4th down.

I think going for it on 4th down was more a function of wanting to make a statement that we are better than you. Not so much that we thought we couldn't win kicking field goals. He wanted to blow them out, and didn't.
Totally on board with that first one not going for the field goal decision to set the tone, definitely not for the second one as you take the points there.

I agree with you regarding the reason. But the message it sends is a bit more desperate.

I flip it. You take the points first. The second time you go for it to set the tone that you are not settling for FGs all day.

Anyone going to the Colgate game Friday? In the 300’s. Thinking about doing the 100’s on Halloween against belicheat

Nah you set the tone if you can from the outset that we’re better than you. Because you gotta score to win this game of football and with the score at 0-0 there’s no issues.

But now down 7-0, where you failed the first time, failed to set the tone, failed to show your the superior team, and the team you’re playing showed they’re legit and it’s gonna be a game, then at that point you take the points and field goal. Going for it the second time was unwise arrogance on our part. Frans got some things to learn understandably as a young coach.

Meaning learn balance. Am I happy we have a coach who thinks outside the box and isn’t conservative like so many before him? Damn straight, love his aggressiveness and prefer he err on the side he is and it’s by and large paying off.

But much like wildhack etc guided him with some things he mentioned in the press conference, hopefully somebody will get his in his ear about striking that balance I mention above/being A bit more strategic in his thinking and decision making.

We will have to agree to disagree. I take the first FG. You just marched down the field. You do not want to come away empty. This is UConn, not Holy Cross. You are not going to be the superior team because of one drive.

A FG gives you the lead. If they get a TD, you can get a TD and retake the lead. If they get a FG, you get a FG and retake the lead. If they don't score, you can always go for it on the next one...

My superficial take is that some of the bad throws were just on busted plays and on others, he got lazy with his footwork (and doesnt have the arm strength to overcome that). The laziness thing would get to Board Messiah Eric Dungey too, just less frequently.

I thought his best throw of the night was the scramble/roll out dart he threw to Russell in the fourth quarter, immediately before the terrible pick he threw to the other side of the field.

I'd like to see Nixon get a little more creative with option/play action and get Angeli moving more, both on planned throws and with some short scrambles just to make positive plays.

Right now, I see him as a moderate floor/low ceiling guy. He's not going to carry the team, but when he's playing well, he's definitely competitive enough to win games.
Exactly

yeah I get that thinking too, good thoughts

since you're so interested in this, it's historic in this way too, as discussed here coming back with a 1% chance of winning at the time in 4th qrt to actually come back and win which has not been done before here is the implication. As they discuss, circumstances were such that it's never been done in quite this way before, that's "historic":

I'm not interested enough to listen to Mike McAllister's voice.

1% win probability just means it happens 1 out of every 100 times. There's been hundreds of thousands of football games.
