Coach Search Options after Autry

why do so many of you care about him getting arrested for Weed 30 years ago?

I get yeah he is a convicted felon, but its not like he murdered someone

reminder, our legend of an HC killed a guy (it was not Boeheims fault, but still)
It’s not like he had a bag of weed. What does one do with 96 lbs of weed?

It's not like ISIS or something.
I lifted this from wiki so I don't want credit. It is in the public domain.
Kimani Young, the current associate head coach for the UConn men’s basketball team, has a documented criminal history involving a felony conviction.

In 1999, after graduating from the University of Texas at El Paso, Young was arrested in Texas for possessing 96 pounds of marijuana. He was sentenced to one year in federal prison Wikipedia+1. This conviction is a felony and is part of his public record. Following his release, Young worked in youth sports and coaching roles, eventually joining the University of Minnesota men’s basketball staff under head coach Richard Pitino bringmethesports.com.

While serving time, Young was described by Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague as someone who “turned his life around” and became a positive influence in the program bringmethesports.com. He has since built a successful coaching career, including stints at FIU, Minnesota, and UConn, where he played a key role in the Huskies’ back-to-back NCAA championships in 2023 and 2024"

Bizarre thing to nitpick.

not sure what to think

Same. The whole thing is bizarre. A guy who is publicly linked to 2 specific jobs announces that he's turned one team down while his team is in the middle of preparing for an NCAA Tournament game?

Obviously wouldn't make sense for SU to leak it and make themselves look terrible.

So that leaves his agent or a 3rd party. Why would the agent do it now and create that distraction for his current team? I assume BH still wants to make a run in this tourney, then choose from his options. How much extra leverage do you get from announcing that on Tuesday?

3rd party leak? Perhaps from a disgruntled donor?

No one's punishing him for that. It's the fact like the rest of the Syracuse contingent his offenses stink.

Maybe a fair point, but if he is given the opportunity to coach SU, I assume he will do everything in his power to create an effective offense.

He resurrected a moribund program & manufactured enough offense to improve the win totals by 10 in year 1 & another 9 in year 2. He did this w a limited roster as well.

Anyhow, maybe it won't be him. We'll see.

Another 30 pages - I appreciate all the posts and agree wholeheartedly with the frustration of keeping this in house. A personal anecdote - I'm a Sacramento Kings season ticket holder and the hopelessness around this hire has a lot of parallels withe the dysfunction that is the Kings. A meddling wealthy owner (who is poor compared to the owners of successful organizations) but more so than that, the repeated hiring of in-house/former legends. Then they suck and ruin their legend status.
Vlade Divac put in the GM position and selects Marvin Bagley over Luka. Doug Christie installed as head coach and way over his head. Point being, under qualified in-house hires and are no longer adored by fans. I'm quite concerned the same will happen to GMac if he's the hire.
