But what if the #1 item on your list ends up being that Phil Martelli, Jr (or some other non-SU person) gets the job? And then #2 thru #9 all play out the same way? Would the dome faithful give the benefit of the doubt to PMJ if Year 1 went off the rails - but not extend that same courtesy to Gerry or to Hop?

We’re not guaranteed success next year, no matter who we hire. We’re likely to have an entirely new roster, and it might take the new staff a year or two to build the foundation that they want. Even if we had landed Hodgson, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that he might have led us to a 21-12 record, 10-10 in the ACC (tied for 7th place), with us squarely on the bubble again next March. If Hodgson or any other ‘outsider’ does that, would whispers start after Year 1 that he might not be the right coach? If Gerry/Hop lead us to a similar record next year, will they be treated differently just because they’re SU alums?

I think success has a higher likelihood getting away with from the JB influence and mistakes of the past, you get more juice out of the gate and more patience. It’s a fair question sure but I think you get two solid years under this scenario vs in house.

Now if it’s a cheap hire and we are looking at Holloway or UConns Young etc etc to me it’s the same scenario so there is a range of candidates externally that grace and patience applies and then it’s the same for a bad cheap hire or in house hire as this list minus maybe the JB stuff.

I'm just skimming through & using my limited mental capacity to track themes & then commenting when a post triggers a theme I noticed.

The themes are majorly negative towards GMac, as if he will be Red Redux. That is not fair. Imo.

The other themes treat Hodgson like he's a mix of Danny Hurkey, John Wooden & Mark Few, and I don't think that is fair either, or supported by evidence. That said, I do acknowledge his wins are against a greater SOS, per that metric. But, also, when I look at the teams he's played against, I don't see anything of significance.

Obviously wouldn't make sense for SU to leak it and make themselves look terrible.

So that leaves his agent or a 3rd party. Why would the agent do it now and create that distraction for his current team? I assume BH still wants to make a run in this tourney, then choose from his options. How much extra leverage do you get from announcing that on Tuesday?
