Another Pitt flameout...

What have we been saying since the beginning?

Pitt, G'Town, Marquette, & Louisville when they get down, are teams that rely on officiating in the Big East to make their mark.

It helps them for seeding in the Tourney & reputation, but when they get in the Tourney, they don't get the same respect by the refs, so they can't foul their way out of trouble.

Louisville has plenty of talent & Dieng, which gives them a chance to go deep, but if they get down by double digits, the refs will not let them repeat another Syracuse style comeback.

I realize anything can happen, but how often have these teams gone deep in a tournament or won a national title?

Louisville has had some success since entering the Big East, because they had enough talent to do so.

Dixon could not/would not answer questions about USC- sure seemed like that meant he had his bags packed.

pitt once again checking their fuel level with a match. boom.

I just can't bring myself to pick on Pitt given the fact that we've lost to lower seeded teams in 6 out of the last 7 NCAA tournaments.

We HAVE to get back to a Final Four.

Yeah. Dixon and Pitt get a lot of criticism here but his/their NCAA tournament record is very comparable to SU.

In the 9 years Dixon's been Pitt's coach (not counting this year because SU has yet to play):

NCAA tourney appearances: Pitt 8 SU 7
NCAA tournament record: Pitt 11-8 SU 10-7
Sweet Sixteens (no farther): Pitt 2 SU 3
Elite Eights or better: Pitt 1 SU 1
Final Fours: Pitt 0 SU 0
years with no NCAAT wins: Pitt 2 SU 4

Tell me how many times Pitt has outperformed its seed. They've been a disaster in the NCAA tourney for way too long.

Has Pitt ever even been to a F4?

I have no idea how many times ANY school - including SU - has outperformed its seed, I don't think that statistic is that important.

Right now, Pitt has more wins in the NCAAT than SU during Dixon's tenure which is surprising considering SU is supposed to be the better program. Pitt had more NCAAT wins than SU when Howland was there too IF you take away Melo's miracle year, which I know we can't but I'm just saying it to make a point about the 2 programs.

Pitt had a few years of better recruiting than CUSE in the mid 2000's, & that usually leads to a better record, but the cream rose to the top, & Syracuse is the better program still.

We didn't know that our recruiting class after Carmelo would be a bust.

you can set your watch to it.

The funny thing is that my second biggest bractket buster after Pitt is Gonzaga - the Zags may
may actually win a few games this time.

" Melo's miracle year "

Good lord.

I hate Pitt, but watching Tray Wooddall break down during the press conference when asked about how he felt with finishing his career with a 1-12 shooting performance is tough. I know it's the reporter's job, but come on. The kid is clearly heart-broken.

Good lord.

If memory serves, Carmelo passed his college entrance exam on his final attempt at doing so. That's mainly why I said "miracle year".

Some reporters are simply crude, ala Shwartzbag.

It's important because when you exit early by losing to a lower seed then you have had a disappointing tournament. You might want to check with Pitt fans to see if they are as sanguine as you are about Pitt's postseason performance. As for comparing the two programs SU has been to three national championship games in the last 26 years. How many has Pitt been to?
