When Reese took only one of two shots on a foul, they let play continue, and then called things back to let him shoot the second foul only to resume play where it had gone after the no-call, was that following the rule book? If this was an NCAA tournament championship game, how would it have played out?

That was ridiculous. I'm not going to reference the rule book, but I'll boldly predict that that sequence didn't adhere to any rules.

Boeheim was talking first to Bernie, then to the guys on the end of the bench; seemed like he was saying something along the lines of "If this were a real game, I'd be throwing chairs right now."

I noticed that also. My guess was that the refs said it was the easiest way to do things and the outcome was not an issue, so JB agreed. I still wonder about the official way to deal with it.

I'm assuming that the official way to deal with it was to go back and look at the clock at the time of Reese's missed first FT, set the game clock back to that point, and wipe off everything that happened after the miss. Then play it out normally from Reese's second FT attempt, with everyone back on the line.

Just an assumption on my part.

once the walk ons enter the rules leave

That would have been my guess too.
