That is embarrassing for a program with the history we have.

We were a top team in the Big East, but just another mediocre member of the ACC. This conference is more about offense and scoring, and we've had a declining offense since joining.

There are a number of reasons why this program is struggling so much and part of it is the inability to adjust and change.

The bleeding will end next season. Final 4 team, book it!
At this point I'll take a NCAA tourney team, let alone a Final Four team.

There's something missing from next year's roster. Really need a strong power forward off the bench to add depth. I'd like to see us go after a 5th year transfer if we can't get Thompson.

I want one of the beat writers to step up and ask Boeheim who is to blame for this HUGE decline in the program since 25-0

40-32
NCAA violations
Multiple misses in recruiting (Johnson, Patterson, Joseph, Obokoh)
0 ACC tourney wins in 3 years
Attendance down 9.5%

I'd prefer Mark Coyle asking those questions. We all know if an exporter went there, JB would go off.

Attendance being down is better for all the traffic getting out of The Dome.

Still one of my all time board favorites.

You mean the NCAA violations that occurred before 25-0, or are there new ones I am unaware of? Should we disregard the recruiting successes while we're at it, because comparable programs never miss on a recruit? Will a two game sample of ACCT games be predictive of future performance? Should we panic over a small decline in attendance in a season that was relatively thin on attractive home opponents?

Anyone who didn't see rough times ahead after the 2013-14 season when both Ennis and Grant left and the black cloud of sanctions were still hanging over our heads needs better intuition.

We'll get past this. There are studs already on this roster and two more are coming in. Calm the hell down.

Yeah we're pretty much a combination of BC and Rutgers right now but worse.

I'm sure one of you folks can find another thread soon to waste the team. It gets a little tired after awhile seeing the same posters finding negative things to say. It must make you feel good to post something that might bring your subject down to where you are.

since the 25-0 start we're 20-24 in the acc, which includes 0-2 in acc tourny

And your point is? JB should have quit when he was ahead? The team should have? SU should stop scheduling tough teams? 20-24 is not even a season and half!!!

my point is 4 games under .500 in conference play over the last 2.5 seasons is PATHETIC for a team of syracuse's stature.

Just for comparison, what's the conference record for all the other teams dealing with a suspended coach and scholarship reductions?

I'll play a little devil's advocate here but just remember -

Who thought Tyler Ennis would be a one and done?
Who thought J. Grant was going to bolt after his sophomore year?
Who would have thought that CMac would tear his ACL early part of last season, then thinking he would come back but instead go pro?
Who would have thought the lovely NCAA would hammer SU as bad as they did?

I'm not trying to say JB is a total saint but we did have somethings go bad the last few years that were not planned.

Ennis was a top 25 recruit, didn't think one year but two was at least a 50/50 chance.
Everybody thought Grant was going, he was in the mock drafts as a lottery pick before his sophomore season started.
He could have lost a leg, Cmac wasn't coming back.
The hammer was bad, but really, what was lost because of it, Buss and BJ this year? What impact would they have had this season (probably none)

Contingency plans are needed for everything and we've had none, one and done and two and dones happen to every single program with guys they don't think are going to bolt and still make things happen. Coaches and programs have had to adapt to the way things are done these days and while I think we did a great job of it in the late 00s and early 10s, since we've been poor at adapting.

Ennis? Not me...that was definitely a surprise.
Grant after Soph year? Yep, I thought it was a possibility
CMac leaving after ACL tear? Yep, I actually said that on this board and was called stupid
NCAA? Can't control that.

We've had two years to get the PG figured out. Joseph didn't pan out and we didn't get a PG this year. Is what it is.

post hoc, ergo propter hoc, huh? :blah:

Since after an arbitrary point in time (chosen since it was a VERY high point), we've been mediocre.
Yes, and ??

That's how statistics and averages usually work.

How about our OVERALL ACC record since joining?
That's actually, you know, based on something most reasonable people consider when talking about results - full seasons, either overall, or in conference.

We happen to have had consecutive sub-par seasons, so looking at these sort of #'s right now, will naturally lead to the gloom-and-doom folks having plenty to be happy about.

Enjoy.

I don't think the scholarship reductions that didn't even come down until late last year had any impact whatsoever on our current state record wise. The lack of recruiting at the most critical position (point guard) has been the cusp of the downward trend as well as the unforeseen departures, but certainly not the sanctions. Bryant didn't come here because of his mother, and it had nothing to do with the sanctions, that is according to highly regarded posters on this site. Diagne was an apparent coursework/scholar issue, again, nothing to do with the sanctions. Joseph, unfortunately, has been a major swing and miss, and JB hasn't adequately filled the position to date. Patterson, was another guard we missed on...BJ's transfer is not as critical as he didn't play guard, let alone the lead.

Who did we lose because of the scholarship reductions to date, since you're insinuating that is a factor? I really don't see this having any causal relationship between our gradual deterioration from 25-0 and now.

JB being suspended for nine games had no effect on our record this season?

A self-imposed post season ban which demoralized the team didn't have any effect on last year's record?
