In an earlier post about tonight being the first chance ever for a team from South Dakota to get a bid to the NCAAs, it was asked whether South Dakota was the only state never to have sent a school there.

Oddly enough, Andy Katz just tweeted the answer. According to Andy, if the South Dakota State Jackrabbits win tonight and get the automatic bid from the Summit Conference, Maine will be the only state from the lower 48 not to have sent a school there.

(Does this suggest that Andy reads our board?)

But how many Frozen Fours does Maine have? ;) I'm sure they care more about their hockey up there. That and Stephen King. And lobster.

Since 1948, Maine has 2 titles, and 3 runner-ups.

Yet the University of Maine Black Bears have been in the College (Baseball) World Series seven times since 1964. They rank as tied at #6 for most appearances without a title. Seems odd to me that they'd produce a competitive baseball program but struggle at an indoor sport more suited to the Maine winters.

Is Andy Katz really BlueCurtain?
