Antoine Deslauriers named to Shaun Alexander Award Watch List

He is a star in the making for sure
Yep, it's amazing to watch him do his thing, learning on the job. By and large doing well, even very well (the not one but two game clinching plays at the end of UConn), but as one would expect for a young player he's been out of position more than a time or two, but he ALWAYS hustles to the ball full speed to try and correct things if he missed his primary responsibility. He doesn't always have the speed to get there but it's not for a lack of trying.

Plus you can really seeing him adapting morphing and evolving to more of a leadership role, trial by fire wise in there. Real pleasure to watch. Lets hope he get this award.

Kid is beyond football smart. You can see it out there in his moves actions.

Ive seen him a few times calling the plays on defense and adjusting coverages etc.

A big move for a true freshman.

Jerry Azzinaro said something about Dwight Freeney at a coach's clinic a few years ago that stuck with me and applies to Antoine. He said Dwight had a rare ability to "jolt" the OL right off the snap. "Jolt" really captures Dwight's style in a way I couldn't articulate. It's a great verb. Antoine really jolts guys. I'm not saying he'll be another Dwight but when was the last time we had a frosh defender this good? I can't think of one.
