I think we're overlooking AJ Long.
I guess that's right.
It just seems to me that Eduard is the more sought after prospect.
I think we're overlooking AJ Long.
What do you mean we "have not had a dual threat QB since McNabb left" ???
Because there have been plenty of them on the roster.
You mentioned Joe Fields, but there's also been:
Dee Brown came in as a dual threat QB, but switched to RB when he saw McNabb entrenched at QB.
Perry Patterson was a top-20 dual threat QB coming out of high school. (#17 on R1vals)
RJ Anderson or as Coach P called him "Robin" Anderson was a pretty good dual threat QB - His biggest flaw was that he wasn't McNabb or Vick.
Joe Dailey was a big time dual threat recruit... But alas he transferred to Nebraska.
Madei Williams was also big time dual QB recruit that didn't pan out. But if you ever saw him in pads, he looked like a super hero.
Malik Campbell was the top-rated dual threat QB in NY/NJ, but he switched to WR.
Cecil Howard was another huge dual threat QB recruit out of PA, but he transferred out quicker than you can sneeze.
Some could argue David LeGree was a dual threat QB - if only because he was a drop back passer who could run. He also transferred out due to "differences" with G-Rob.
And then there's John Kinder and Ashton Broyld who have not seen the field as QBs, but both came in highly touted.
Not including Troy Nunes who also was a bit of a dual threat, that's ELEVEN (11) legitimate dual threat QB's on the roster since the McNabb era.
I know there's been more, but there was no need to keep the list going.
We have a winner. Post of the day! For those about to rock, I salute youWe are who we thought we were.
Even before DM left, we all knew that this year was a real crap shoot. We had just lost 5 players to the NFL including half our O Line, a three year starting QB, a record setting wide receiver and a soon to be NFL safety. Then, we lost almost our entire coaching staff. All of this while heading into the ACC for the first time.
The conventional wisdom was that Charle Loeb would take over at QB, Hickey and Trudo would step up on the O Line and that our D would be good because we had a great core of LB's. We were all whistling past the graveyard.
Our new head coach gets hired January 8, 2013 - less than one month before National Signing Day. He had to assemble a staff and salvage what was another of Marrone's fair to middling recruiting classes.
Give me a break - this was Mission Impossible and geniuses on this board want to fire him?!
Shafer never complained about the challenge, never tried to lower expectations and never whined. He went to work and in a short period of time he:
What more do you want? What more do you think is reasonable to expect?
- Hired a pretty good staff including one of the best recruiters in the country.
- Recruited a 5th year QB transfer from OK that everyone thought would be a reasonable stand-in for Nassib.
- Saved the recruiting class from a complete utter disaster.
We are who we thought we were. We are not a very good team and we are in a rebuilding year. Instead of bitching and moaning about the performance of a team that is playing at the level that we previously feared, why not put our unreasonable expectations behind us and get behind our HC who is doing a great job.
Give the man a chance.
"(11) legitimate dual threat QB's"
Lets not go crazy.
We have not had a "legitimate" dual threat QB since McNabb.
Yes, there have been some pretenders.
Legitimate by the definition of the term.
Not good or even viable... Just legitimate.
Keep in mind that prospects who give a verbal to Miami or who give no verbal will be viewed more highly and more "sought after" than prospects who give a verbal to SU early on. Its always seemed to work that way. Sign on with SU and you automatically aren't viewed as being as good a prospect as if you sign on with Miami or another top 25 power school. Sign on with SU and you don't get re-reviewed by the recruiting websites until later in the game if at all than you would if you were unsigned.I guess that's right.

But he also has offers from everybody.
From Tennessee to Nebraska to Penn State and on and on.
My point was and is that AJ Long, particularly with his Syracuse bicep tattoo and his many many twitter posts of love and recruiting for SU, has effectively shut down his recruiting. He loves SU. I would think that other schools contact him and he voices his love for SU and that he is solid, so other teams don't go down that path and won't offer him, because it does no good and it doesn't look good for a first tier team to offer a kid and have him turn it down for SU. Thus, AJ Long isn't likely to get any other offers from first tier schools.
Edouard has offers from other schools, but we don't know whether other schools offered him to come in at QB, WR or DB or what.
I think both of them are huge gets for SU and they both have a great chance to be successful here, to change this program for the better, and to showcase skills for the NFL.
I just don't know that it is accurate to say that one is more sought after, highly regarded or better as a QB than the other. Sought after as measured by offers, no question Edouard has more offers, but again we don't know that those are QB offers or if he was offered to go to other schools as a DB or if he was offered as a QB, but those other schools have no intent to have him as a QB and plan to switch him to another position upon his arrival on campus. It could very well be that Edouard's only offer to play QB is SU. I don't know either way and I'm not hooked in to the recruiting network any more than anyone else.
