I haven't read this whole thread. Only through page 3. But one point I am not seeing, is that this would be as much for the City of Syracuse, and the State of NY as it is for SU. Right now the Dome is on campus and that limits it's use for non campus big type of events. I think they may be looking at this for major big events at times. The only reason it would not be for a final four or a big event like a national convention would be lack of hotels, which could come at a later time if this place took off. I would not rule out any type of event in the further future. But in the meantime, there are so many other type of events of a slightly smaller scale than a FF that could be held in Syracuse, bringing lots of money into the area. Major arenas switch events over all of the time. Often in one day. From basketball in the daytime to hockey at night. As far as being slightly off campus, I remember when I visited Michigan with my son I thought the stadium was fairly far off campus. Most students need to bus there, or it is a good 30 minute walk. Not that I am going to compare our football attendance with Michigan, but students will get there if they want to. If a good entertainment center is developed around it, even more so. Then it becomes a whole activity with the game as part of it. I think a stadium slightly off campus is also more friendly to the Syracuse community. Parking may be more convenient, etc. Seriously don't underestimate your town. How about when Mall of American was built. Probably everyone thought building the largest mall in Minneapolis was crazy as opposed to building it in the NYC area, or LA area. Who was going to go there?
