A cheap play just happened that is part of the reason this game will be on life-support in the next 5-10 years. Idiot defense back lays out a defenseless player nearly Darrell Stingley style, then they take the poor guy off the field hobbling and bleeding from his freaking ear(!) which for any idiot the medical profession should know is a possible sign of internal skull fracture, with the possibility of bleeding in and around the brain.

Instead of having half a brain and taking him right to the ambulance they go and evaluate him on the sideline after seeing this. That guy better be on his way to the hospital the stupid freaking idiots both the defensive player and the medical staff, this could be potentially life-threatening with the possibility of brain damage. Absolutely disgusting.

I didn't see the play, but it should be a penalty anytime a defender crosses his arms over his chest and "hits" instead of attempting to wrap up and tackle. Getting people to tackle fundamentally would cut way down on the stupid defenseless hits.

Yeah if they want to save this stupid sport I love they are going to need to crack down even more than they are now. At least the idiot got ejected from the game, but they need long-term suspensions and fines to save this game to get through to the idiots that continue to make these kinds of hits.

As for the play and I am sure it will be up on YouTube in three seconds with a video of the poor guy bleeding from the ear

I've heard it suggested that a positive change in the interests of safety could be that a player is only considered down by rugby tackle.

That would eliminate a lot of the "jacked up" types of hits.

And then the game ends with one of the worst cases of literal assault I've ever seen in sport. Never seen anything like it in my life! He was provoked a bit by the qb trying to rip his own helmet off in response to unnecessarily taking him down (and talking shite according to the qb), but then he completely loses it taking of the qb's helmet swinging and hitting him on the head!

Big time suspension is coming (or better be) and they should bring criminal assault charges. Couldve seriously injured the guy if he hit the guy with the crown of the helmet in the face or temple. Between this and the cheap shot that likely severely injured that player with blood coming out of the poor guys ear for Gods sake, no wonder stadiums are half empty with declining interest.

My football fandom is already hanging by a thread as is, at least the college game seems to be taking safety more seriously, screw the pro game.

Garrett should be suspended for the season. Total disgrace

Wow. I missed the game but looking at the highlights here, it can and I assume will be said that the safety was coming from the middle of the field trying to make a play on a slightly overthrown ball. His arms are out in the process of trying to make a basket catch. The second play is all sorts of dumb. At first watch I thought the OL punching and kicking was at issue until I saw the replay in the clip (looking on a phone). Absolutely no place for that.

Wow. The simple brutality of this act as part of a game is beyond compare. Ripping someone’s helmet off and swinging at their head like a weapon. Just Wow. In my opinion a suspension is not adequate punishment.

Garrett is going to be rightfully suspended for quite some time...but I’m surprised no one has really mentioned Pouncey stomping on Garrett’s head.

Total cluster as the end of the game.

Pro football lost me a long time ago, I only watch a full game twice a year. Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl. I really watch the super bowl for the movie trailers

yep to both. But as to the first on the wr hit, they need to make examples of this guy. I'm willing to bet with 100% certainty that the guy the wr is in a bad way today. Maybe real bad. They need to not allow leading with the head in these circumstances precisely because of what can and did happen here. Thats if they want to save the game that's already starting to fail on a downward slide. Yeah he got ejected, fine him $100k and suspend him a couple games too, maybe longer if the wr has as a serious injuries as I fear.

Two things I've never seen in my life last night, the obvious with the helmet assault and then blood coming out of a players ear from a hit. Non medical people just dont get how serious a trauma/potential life threatening sign this is.

ok.. so my question.. you are down 14 with 10 secs to go.. why are you even putting your QB in that spot to get hit?
hes already their back up, and average at best at that.

I don't think that he hit his head as the browns guys leg blocked that, right? But all bets are off anyway at that point once your qb is assualted like that.

Garrett should get a year suspension. Pouncey 8 games and everyone else involved 2 games.

BTW did you see our Hamilton boys blow it?(first winning record chance in 24 years!). I was there. Another cluster, up 21-0, blow it in everyway possible from coach to kids losing 26-21 last minute type thing to 1-7 Bates, we were 4-4.

But at least the program is trending up was my take away though.

Everyone should play without helmets.

I rarely watch a full game anymore. BEtween the second guessing on every flag thrown, commercials, and free agency my interest is slowing declining.
^^This^^

pouncey kicked a guy on the ground.
kick never landed and would hurt the kicker on the helmet more than the intendee could ever get hurt by if landed. Regardless, not condoning it but at that point you do that you get what you deserve and in the scheme of this lets not get lost where the outrage should be directed.

I'm with you. I gave up watching the SEC about five years ago also. Aside from SU, I'm mainly a FCS fan these days. Can't wait until UMASS and UCONN join the CAA.

Many current big money professional athletes believe (and have been groomed to feel like) that there is an "I" in team. These things will continue to happen, and their frequency will accelerate if the folks running things don't retake control of their sports. At the professional level, we've been on this slippery slope for a while. At the college level, we are getting there more slowly - but make no mistake it is happening.

And yes, I'm a boomer...

Watched very little of the game, but saw that hit.

Completely unnecessary.
