AP Poll Rankings in Gross Era

Beat Notre Dame

Then Ville should be a walk in a park, I don't think they are any good.

NOTRE Dame however... Ugh.

I remember a lot of people saying Maryland would be a walk in the park as well. Why do I feel that I'm in this infinite loop of never learning?

Like a walk in Central Park after midnight drunk with a wad of cash hanging out of your pocket!

Three things:
1. GROB is one of the worst coaches in the history of college football
2. The hole that FHCDM and HCSS are digging out of from GROB is massive
3. Stop scheduling OOC teams like USC, LSU etc, we get in early holes (like 2012, that team plays creampuffs instead of USC, NW, Minn we end up ranked)

In 2012, USC finished 7-6 and Minnesota finished 6-7 - pretty mediocre teams.

agreed they were, but still were good enough to take us out. Give me FAU, Eastern Michigan.

That particular year I was fine with us scheduling a challenging slate since the Big East was SO weak having replaced West Virginia with Temple.

It's been 5+ years. Bowl game in year two. 3 bowls total. Better record the 5 years post Grob than the 3 years pre Grob. It's time to judge coaches on their own merits and stop using a coach 6 years ago as an excuse.

Yeah seriously, we are solidly in the MEDIOCRE tier of teams. Everyone threw a hissy fit when Mayock called us "average at BEST". We are what we are. a 6-8 win team in the past 5 years. Doesnt get any more medicore than that.

we are what we are. Until you get that one or two "special" players/playmakers, this is where you (as a team) ends up.

this seems like a bit of a reach to me...

Not at all ... when someone says winning a BE title (which is something we did more than once) was like Rutgers saying we won some stupid league title against little sisters of the poor then you need to put into perspective what the BE was ... it wasn't a MAC caliber conference.

If WVa and Ville got no love for taking SEC and ACC teams to the woodshed for their BCS games, we arent getting love for a 3 way tie for a watered down big east.

Would love to see this kind of post after a win. The "bad taste" effect muddies the story too much. Can't see things objectively.

When did I say they didn't deserve any love? I'm talking about historical perspective not just the last decade ... where oh where did I say they deserve no love? Please point that out to me. Good grief.

I just don't feel it says much that we won a share of a title in a conference that USED TO have two strong teams

We won titles when Miami and Va Tech were there which is part of my point ... when you compare us to the rest of that list they would kill to have our history ... I don't sweat it much.

It's not an excuse just a fact. We are mediocre but a hell of a lot better than we were 6 years back obviously. My point is that a program like SU will take a lot longer to bounce back from a string of wretched seasons. It's time for people to cut said coaches some slack and wake up and realize how damn hard it is to build a winner here.

Yeah, enough of this already. We're in year SIX post-GumpRob. A full cycle of recruits have come and gone since he left.

In 2002 Rutgers went 1-11. They were 11-2 four years later. I know that was a paper tiger 11 wins, but it's certainly evidence that even the worst program in the history of college football can turn things around inside of SIX freakin' years.

I didnt mean you personally, i meant the "national media, the pundits, the press etc". WVa and LVille got no "respect" fro their bowl wins, you think the same pundits give a we finished in a 3 way tie for first in the BE with 3 conf losses?

What was the year we won the title that Miami and VA tech were in the conference?

It doesn't. Look at all the recruits knocking down the doors at SMU and there Southwest Conference Championships with A&M, Baylor, Texas

Thanks - that's why I don't really take that into consideration when we are looking at our current top 25 drought.

And once again you missed my entire point ... it had to do with the Rutgers analogy when citing Va Tech and Miami ... good grief. This goes beyond the scope of the top 25 drought ... but since we are playing semantics we made it to the top 25 in 01 when both Miami and Va Tech were in the conference is that better? Geesh.
