A person with knowledge of the situation says the Penn State board of trustees will meet Wednesday afternoon to discuss whether President Rodney Erickson had the authority to agree to unprecedented NCAA sanctions against the football program without first getting the board's approval.

Their BOTs couldn't have handled this whole situation any worse, right from the start. That school is sickening. The whole university really needs to be shut down for a few years.

Death to Smoochy

Such a great movie!

So they didn't so much as brief the BOT before PSU agreed to the sanctions?

Oy vey.

Someday college courses on crisis management will be taught with the entirety of the semester built on studying this ongoing cluster- in Happy Valley.

That's the whole problem... The BOT report directly to the Paterno Family now that JoePa is gone... It's why they are complaining they had no say...

Kidding, of course, but this sh@tstorm is like the red eye of Jupiter... You're not only amazed by its size and scope, you wonder where it's going next...

The second they fight it, give them the DP... and not for one year.

I imagine Emmert would LOVE that fight. The Oregon State president doesn't seem like someone to mess around with either on this issue. I would enjoy sitting back and watching. At that point, they wouldn't play football until 2015.

The funny/sad/amazing thing is that they appear not to realize that if they were to challenge this, it would invite the FULL wrath of the NCAA and B1G. As if what those two organizations have already done to them isn't enough...

They might find themselves without a FB team for a decade.

agree, dont open pandora's box.

'oh, so you dont agree with this punishment? ok. we take it back. heres your 2 new options...death for 7 years or death for 7 years? which do you prefer?'

I think the Board should meet to determine if President Spanier had the authority to address the Sandusky issue back in 1998 without telling the Board.

I think the Board should meet to determine if President Spanier had the authority to address the Sandusky issue back in 2001 without telling the Board.

I think the Board should meet to determine if President Spanier had the authority to determine JoePa's buyout last January without telling the Board.

I think the Board should shut up. Sooner than later. And then quit.

And if you would like your daily does of disgusting, go over to the PSU board and see their thoughts on this.

To them, it is time to fight this with this revelation.

Politics 101: When your enemies are engaged in a circular firing squad, do nothing. Just stand back and watch them go at it.

And enjoy.

The BOT needs to shut up, all their making noise is going to accomplish, is bring the full wrath of the federal government down on them. They still don't get the fact that the majority of the people in the country want their program gone.

The same reason why the Board is at fault for the lack of oversight during the JoePa/Sandusky era is the same reason why they should have been involved in this discussion. In every business I've ever encountered in my career the board steers the company for the present and future and should have had a say in one of the biggest decisions that effect the school.

On a side note I agree with the penalty and hope the Board does too but I think the President missed a step in the organizational structure by not communicating with the Board. A partner in my firm says you can never get in trouble for over-communicating to top management (unless you are communicating something illegal) and by delegating responsibility and receiving others input.

If they are stupid enough to fight NCAA sanctions so be it. I could careless about PSU. Let them dig their own grave. I hope we get some recruits that may have considered them in the future. They have their heads so far up their own a**.

They reach new depths every single day. The group think and consensus reality on their message boards in depressingly remarkable.

And they actually think that they are the victims.

That's precisely the reason why the NCAA needed to drop the hammer--the culture that facilitated this tragedy, at every level, is deplorable and needs to be harshly rebuked / reprimanded. And ultimately, why the NCAA penalties weren't severe enough, IMO.

i have said since day one --the death penalty is required to BEGIN to eradicate the cult.3-5yrs they have learned nothing and now the bot proves it. eriksen would wise to get out now----the place is a perverted cesspool---clueless. for all that were against the death penalty ---what does this tell you????

If they fight the penalties, it's not out of the question that they might be kicked out of the Big10.

I didn't see anything in the article indicating that the board will move to appeal. It looks more like an internal move against Erickson only, which they may have a basis for. Not to mention they'll want to emphasize that they should be involved in subsequent fallout from this.

But if they do move to appeal, I agree with dropping the DP on them right away. And for a longer time than initially considered.

why do anything at this time to give the impression that there is something else???basically i am glad they are doing it,it reinforces the degree that psu denies and sends a horrible message to the students---we are penn state and we don't deserve this"
