AP Top 25 for Sept 2

Clemson, ND, and Texas all lose and stay in the top 10, FST beats the #8 team and is ranked 4-6 slots below the other three. I don't know if this poll is used for anything anymore, but it is heavily biased toward preseason rankings which are just guesses.

To be fair all three teams lost close games to top 10 teams and two lost on the road.

It's not just whether you win or lose, it's how you do it. FSU went from unranked to 14. That's a huge jump and the leap frogged a bunch of teams that won. And you can argue that they didn't beat #8, they beat #21.

The more they boost FSU, the more they can spin “quality opponent loss”.

Bama has a lot of fans. Media wants those clicks.

Once again the schedule this year is insane. Tennessee is like the 4th or 5th best team Syracuse plays this year
They could also be the best team on our schedule. There is no clear cut dominant team or set of dominant teams this year. UT could very well be better than ND, Miami, Clemson and SMU we just don't know yet.

just a couple observations based on the eye test from week 1- I would put Tenn above SMU, and I don't think South Carolina is a top 10 team.

ND struggled to run on Miami ... that could be a preview of things to come for the Irish. I wouldn't be surprised if UT beat both those teams either. I consider UT and LSU comparable .. big difference is QB play is better for LSU but UT is better running the football, both defenses seem primed for a good year. Could UT also best Clemson?

Agree with top comment. Tennessee could go 10-2 this year. SEC schedule is light. If we end up "only" 7-5...with this schedule, we might be the 4th or 5th best team they play all year.

When I looked at UTs schedule I had a game like Bama written off as a loss ... boy I don't see that now. I'm glad I waited to at least watch a few teams before drawing too many conclusions on our squad, I think we surprise some people.

Remember, this is an AP poll...so naturally the press is going to favor teams that help them make $$$$$ Penn State is one of em
