if only he was a middling qb or played for a team nobody cared about...or didnt graduate from here, but still was an assistant...we would root for him and have articles linked about him.

I think hes close to being HOF. If he wins this one this year, he would be tied for Tom Landry (I think?) for most road playoff victories, but with a much better record (7-7 vs 7-4). As Colin Cowherd says, you need one sentence to sum up why someone should be in the HOF. For Coughlin it would be the best road winning percentage in playoff history. That says a lot about him.

I agree. I wish at some point the timing worked out right and he had a chance to be the Syracuse head coach. He would have been a fun guy to have running our football program.

i cant tell you how many times i had this discussion tailgating at Giants games, including the 07 season.

consensus was that he would have to come back on the ole alumni-discount. but after he won, that was out the window.

from a strictly Syracuse prospective, you want him to win it all this year and walk off into the sunset, retire back in cny (at least for the early fall) and consult for Marrone. be there for practices, home games, the Giants Stadium ones etc.

What are you whining for? He's an alum and he coached here. We all want to see him do well. You'd have to be a real jerk to root against an SU alum.

1 Super Bowl isn't enough for Tom to make the hall. if Tom wins a 2nd super bowl and with the way he took down an unbeaten team like NE, he will get in. Some coaches with 2 aren't in, tough for a coach with only 1 who doesn't have a resume like a Levy per say (went to 4 straight) to get in.

I have to think something happened when Coach Mac came since it coincided with Coughlin's departure and him taking a demotion from OC here to QB coach at BC. He left the pros to come back to coach BC when Coach P took over from Coach Mac. Wonder if Coach Coughlin was considered or not?
