Are we better?

To me, operating on the premise Angeli will be healthy, everything on offense will depend on new oline coach and performance of oline. On defense our new DC a dline coaches and our dline must improve. Everything depends on our trench play. I think we are fine in the other areas both O and D. Count me from Missouri, the show me state. We have to see competent oline and dline play next year hard stop. I'm not predicting any wins or losses now, to early for that but if our new coaches don't make the impact needed in the trenches, nothing else will matter.

Off season to date

Coaching A+
Offense C+ We have alot of questions on the line and WR but we did stock the QB room
Defense B- LOTS of new pieces with a new DC would have liked the S from Toledo and maybe another LBer
Special Teams C- We lost our automatic long snapper and AA punter. We are bringing in a top ranked punter but I don't trust the long snapper spot yet

The floor has been raised and I believe we removed negatives from the team. Hopefully this new batch of players gels together quickly and the new defense is sufficating

QB-Improved, but what will really matter is if Angeli is healthy
RB-Wash at best, Miller is probably similar to Willis, hopefully brakes more tackles, but hope Johnson can replace Nixon as a receiver out of the backfield. Hopefully Tylik is improved with experience and offseason,
WR-Worse, at least in proven production.
TE-I thought Villari was really good when we had a productive QB. Meyers will hopefully replace him as a WR. Not sure about his blocking. I'm high on Washington-Baker.
OL-Million dollar question. I think we have less experience than a year ago. Will really depend on development. A gamble to not bring in an experienced OL. Hope the new OL coach lives up to a good rep.
DL-Think the pass rush will be at least mildly improved with our new DE's, particularly Keyshawn. Don't think we're better at DT on paper, but am optimistic that new DC maximizes talent better.
LB-Should improve with a more experienced Deslauriers and Kimble. D' appolonia should help against the pass.
S-Step down to this point. No one like Devin Grant, but he struggled to stay healthy.
CB-Step up, as Samuel and Peal are both talented and now have a year of experience. Don't know if we have any depth there after losing Singleton.

Our biggest acquisitions were the DC and hopefully the OL coach. The key, as always, is our OL and the health of our QB.

Coming off a 3-9 season where we were arguably the worst team in football it’s a hard sell. We’ve improved the DC but it’s not going to be an overnight fix. Just tackling properly will be an improvement though.

No opinion on the kids from the portal, will have to be a wait and see.

We need a Mark Cuban type donor. He pumped in massive amounts of money to support the NIL of IU.
I thought I read that Cuban was sort of late to the IU party, but I agree we need a whale, though Cignetti helps.

You are getting a better DT back from injury then anyone who replaced him after the injury in Perry.

With the portal closed, can players who entered the portal but were not picked up continue to look for a team or are they stuck with their old team?

Continue once they entered.

Hate to say it but it may get ugly, like really ugly, on this board by mid season

We were a Horrible team that picked up no real game changer portals

Hopefully coaching changes work miracles

That is what I am worried about, and I am an optimist when it comes to Cuse sports. With that being said, it was undeniable that our higher rated transfers year 1 led us to a 10 win season. This past year we had less big time transfers and it showed. Obviously we would have had a much better season with Angeli, but the talent issues really showed when he went down.

Back up QB aside, we lacked talent on defense and on the offensive line. Now were settling back into middle of the pack recruiting and transfer rankings. It is easy to look at things with orange colored glasses and say we have improved, I am just not sure.

The roster floor looks higher, but the ceiling looks lower to me. Year after year we tend to overhype and believe new guys will be better than they are. The data consistently shows teams with higher rated transfers and more 4/5 star guys win more.

This looks like a team that will stay closer to good teams but ultimately be middle of the pack.
