If so, thus far in Dino's tenure at Syracuse, the offense is nowhere near, not even in the same stratosphere, as the those Baylor teams on offense.

Baylor pts per game during Briles era:

2008: 28
2009: 20.8
2010: 31.2
2011: 45.3
2012: 44.5
2013: 52.4
2014: 48.2
2015: 48.1

Syracuse pts per game during Dino era:

2016: 25.7
2017: 27.4
2018: 40.2
2019: 27.3

Understood that there is a rebuild/ramp-up period as shown in the first couple of years. In 2018, with Dungey, the offense took a huge leap forward. Then this year, huge step back due to youth/inexperience all over the offense.

Just some food for thought. I believe Dino's vision for this team is to be like those Baylor teams (minus the off-field stuff). A team that puts up A TON of points (while also surrendering alot of points on defense). I think this highlights that Dino is still very much rebuilding the offense and still has a long way to go. In 2018, we had Dungey and all of his heroics. This year was the first year with all Dino recruited players on offense. I'm willing to be patient as Dino bakes this cake. With mostly everyone back on offense next year, looking forward to see how this offense grows, but clearly, there is still a long way to go to reach the Art Briles level of scoring displayed at Baylor at it's peak.

I thought we were just supposed to win games.

Would prefer not to be in rock fights and some scoring in a fun offense would be nice. I'll settle for scoring more than the other team.

Hard to compare given so many differences.

All that I know is this, in the 4 years under Babers we have:

Never finished in the Top half of the ACC in yards per carry. How much of that is system vs talent (OL and RB)?

Finished in the Top half of the ACC once in yards per completion (5th). That was ironic since that season we had our worst group of WRs.

We are running more plays than ever before but we aren’t doing all that much with those plays. So our total yards and points are up but efficiency is lacking.

It's because the plays are essentially 2-3 yard plays, versus using slants and TEs in middle of field for chunk plays

We have sucked in the red zone the entire 4 years of Dino’s tenure. Even in 2018 when scoring spiked, we settled for way too many field goals.

I agree that there has been meat left on the bone. For example, I will never believe that leaving our best tackle at center (and Alexander at the other T) after 4 hideous performances was the right move, but your numbers actually give me more optimism than pessimism

Briles first 4 years average ppg: 31.3

Dino first 4 years average ppg: 30.2

My guess is that Briles roster looked more like ours does now (average) when he took over as opposed to the G5 roster that DFB took over.

Guess again. Baylor was god awful. We were much better tgan a G5.

Our roster was garbage when Dino got here and Briles had the state of Texas and zero qualms about recruiting rapists so big advantage for that scumbag

Another easy point missed is that the Big12 did not/does not play tough defenses. They simply try to outscore the opponent in a shootout. ACC Teams play defense, at least to varying levels.

I agree the talent differentials also played a part. Dino has to rebuild SU's relationships across the north and east coast. Baylor had easier pickings with surplus Texas talent at hand.

no because everyone runs a derivation of that system. People adjust and the opposition typically has better talent.

I count 12 draft picks on offense from The 2008 - 2012 Baylor teams

I believe we are still sitting at 0, unless Evan Adams or Moe gets drafted, that’s where we’ll stay through year 4.

I understand NFL picks are only 1 (crude) way to look at talent level but it’s pretty stark.

You said when he took over. He brought those kids in. He gets credit for that. But he took over a bigger SHI show.

we play in a conference that actually cares about defense unlike the big 12

The nice part about using draft picks is that they are usually seniors, meaning they’ve been in the program 4-5 years which means virtually all those kids were there when Briles took over

Much like Babers first class graduates (and is draft eligible) this year

We weren’t good at anything before Babers ;)

Not true at all.
- We locked a lot of opponents in the dome and wouldn’t let them leave until they scored more points.
- All of our recruiting classes were diamonds in the rough.
- We found guys that would be in the SEC if they were half an inch taller and 10 lbs heavier
- We got to see a lot of offensive systems not work at all
- The 3rd down bell always guaranteed the other team would convert the 3rd down
- We were #hardnosed

There was a lot to love before Babers.
