His final season at UT, which was Fulmer's last season. Now i'm sure Lane Kiffin came right in and stopped those shenanigans, and Kelly further enforced it, but at what point is this just not fair anymore? I am going to go out on a limb and assume Syracuse isn't cheating, or cheating nearly as bad as some of these SEC/high end BCS schools, but this is getting ridiculous. It's one thing being pi$$ed we can't keep up with the facilities arms race, but how can we keep up with pay for play. Extremely frustrating

I was thinking about this earlier today. Guys we've had kicked off the team for robbery wouldn't have been booted at other schools because rather than steal, they'd have the stuff delivered to their doorstep. To that end, I would say no we are not involved with pay for play.

Some of these kids would find some way to get paid and still steal and get caught and ruin the good thing they had going. I mean, let's face it, there's not a lot of logic, whether you're being paid or not, to steal from the school giving you a free ride. Logic isn't really guiding a good number of these dudes.

Personally I don't get that worked up over boosters paying players. If a school wants to take the risk and boosters want to spend the money, whatever. These programs have to choose who and what they want to be and then compete as best they can. And while I agree the Cuse is probably not cheating (probably being the operative word) as bad, big-time sports is simply shady business. There's certainly dirt there if anyone wants to go looking and that's not even taking into account all the ethical issues some might find repulsive (i.e. a starting point guard getting caught shop-lifting red-handed followed by the coach going 'who knows? it's all good' and then everyone celebrating a final four trip.)

If you ask me, the facilities spending is by far the more egregious thing. Athletes and coaches at this level are simply products of a culture that cares way, way, way WAY too much about how fast a kid can run or how high he can jump. But continuing to feed that culture by spending millions annually on 'necessities' like dedicated basketball practice facilities, players lounges, etc. It's crazy.

But, whatever, such is life. It is never going to be 'fair' so just try to ignore it.

I guess but TV's, etc. and more are "supplied" by these big time programs and on campus fights, drinking, etc. never surface on their police blotters.

That happens at the Cuse too. Maybe not as much but did you ever hang out with any D-I lax players? Fights, substances, destruction of property ...

And before anyone gets irate for me posting that, I'm not trying to paint all lacrosse players with that brush nor am I saying other college kids don't do the same stuff nor am I saying that I disliked the kids involved, necessarily. I'm simply saying there is plenty of stuff that doesn't reach police blotters.

Anyway, I'm with everyone on the point that the SEC seems to have made an art form of cheating and crossing any ethical or moral boundary they can find. I just think it's a waste of time to really worry about it.

Not to say it happens with our FB team now, but read Dave Meggyesy's book, "Out of their League." http://www.amazon.com/Out-Their-League-Dave-Meggyesy/dp/0803283148

I just read the article on CNN. Foster said that after the game he was hungry, and didn't have any food in his fridge, and Fulmer had to bring them tacos or they wouldn't eat. Maybe I am misinformed, but don't these athletes have a full meal plan, and don't they receive a stipend each semester?

They should have full access to the dining halls as well as what's served in the athletics/football facility. There typically is some food money associated with game days.

There is no global stipend, that's one thing that's been approved twice but has been shot down by the overall NCAA membership. It's expected that a new "Super" division would allow for such stipends.

he's so full of shyt...Syracuse always had a spread after their games, not the best food, but they had food on a much smaller budget.
What this a$$clown wanted was lobster for every dinner and filets for lunch.

and Syracuse players got stipends during the summer months when in school on campus

That's such bull it's not even funny. I played D3 hoops and even we had a ton of food before and after every game.

Of course Syracuse is cheating. Everyone is cheating.

As you note, it's probably not on the same level as the largest programs. (Frankly, I don't know that we've brought in the sort of recruits who could get paid.)

It's not really the University, it's the boosters that are allowed access to the program. I just don't think we have boosters who are so life and death Syracuse Football that they are forking over cash left and right.

I was told it was subs post game and beverage

some players would go out to dinner with their parents and some brought others with them

For us post game was never anything crazy, usually pizza, wings, subs, something along those lines, and that was D3. There is no way these kids are starving

SU will get their post-game spread tomorrow around what 4:30 or so. Do you think some of our guys might want to eat again later that evening? Now, SU guys get SUpercard so they have access to food beyond normal dining hours, but suppose their scholarship was only a meal plan. This means to eat dinner, they'd have to make it to a dining hall before 7 or else it's on their own dime. You don't get a food stipend for a home contest. I'm not saying guys are starving, but each school handles scholarship meals differently, so I can see that side of things.

Now you can obvious turn this into a much larger discussion about budgeting because these guys shouldn't be forced to choose between paying rent and getting food. If you ask me, the NCAA should allow schools to feed athletes without restriction.

Is this who you had in mind? Cam Newton
