This is gonna be a fun year with a potentially very good Cuse team, a really tough Cuse schedule and former players everywhere to track nightly.

Kadary will do well at SH and here's why I think we will be fine.

We played our best basketball at the end of the season and largely did it without major contributions from Richmond (obviously he was important late against the WVU press).

So we can argue all we want about potential but we can and did win our most important games with Joe being the lead guard. So I get people are sad but perhaps not as dire a situation as some believe.

Good for Kadary. Complete freedom only gets your team so far though. Big thing is Kadary wants to do what Kadary wants. Again it stings because he really is that good but also a player who wants to dictate every possession he can and showcase his talents for the league.

I doubt KR was going anywhere that wasn't going to hand him the keys and walk back in the house and say just don't crash it.

Maybe Richmond will be the guy who finally gets Kevin Willard past the 2nd round of the tournament.

A bit too much hyperbole about this situation, but i get it. It still stings.
In any case, unlike some others i actually have faith JG3 will be very good for us these next couple of years. I think his shot will be more consistent, he’ll be in better shape post-Covid, and he WILL, mark it down…win some big games for us.
But alas, he will never be Kadary Richmond good. And I’m still baffled, and miffed, about how/why that whole thing went down. Maybe JB assumed he could still act like a stubborn butthole, but in the transfer portal era that old school “my way or the highway” schtick doesn’t wash. Kids are…well, different now, and they have more options. It is what it is.

Kids are different they just have options. Jim would have lost many others in the past if the portal was available. Hop wouldnt have been able to keep half of them.

At the end of the day we all judge Kadary as Kadary the player knowing just how good he can be. We don't always factor in Kadary the teammate and likely very few know that world. The moment he was in the portal sucked. There was so much about this upcoming season we knew was a story never to be told.

That said It just never felt like he and Woody were all about Cuse as much as being about he and Woody. Again that's ok because there are programs for exactly that type of player. I don't think we are a program that fits that type of player right now. Does that hold us back? It might these days.

I'm not at all saying Kadary was being unreasonable. What I'm saying is all we see as fans is who he was as a player. Also I didn't say he was a problem. Just saying he was a player with expectations and we a program that ended up not being the right fit because there was a disconnect for a number of reasons. I've stated this before an and folks get upset. It's effectively that it's a mismatch. There a lot of good players these days who are focused on themselves more than helping a program win. The latter comes secondary. It's not unique to Kadary nor should he be attacked for it. It's just that this kind of player is at odds with our program right now and this kind of player represents more of a majority mindset for the best recruits in the country.

Spend a day on the UK forum when they aren't performing. Half those teams are chastised for selfish play and players called out. It's because Calipari wants kids who keep that pipeline of stopping for a year then heading to the league. It doesn't bother him as long as you give everything you got and you perform. It seems Willard is of a similar mentality.

It's worked well for the most part for both given the reality of where their programs are at in the college hoops hierarchy.
