No, Marrone has been gone 3 years. This is all on Shafer
Shafer has had 2 recruiting classes. Thre are very few upper classman worth a damn. Almost all the players. On the field are in thier first 2 years in the program.

Can't blame the Big Bologna for Trudo regressing. He was very good under Marrone & Adkins tutelage.

Look at Michigan. Same team as last year with a different coach. Like night and day.
They have better players Shaferhad to basically start from scratch. Do you realize the the number of players in the two deep that are in their first 2 years in the program??
No. Marrone left this team with very little. Let's be honest. he never recruited a qb. The two backs we were left with, Morris and MC, aren't very good. No top level wide outs. And that's just offense. On defense, all the guys are young. Marrone was a good game coach but as a recruiter, a disaster. We didn't have a kid drafted last year. Not even drafted.

The O Line is pretty awful at times, but our offense is respectable (mostly). The D is what is going to cause the heat under HCSS's ass (if it comes). That is his supposed ballywick, and these last 3.5 games, they have been eviscerated. Only LSU is really excusable.
There are so many young guys out there. I doubt anyone in P5 conference is as young as SU. There is no substitute for experience and we just don't have much.

They do? They were real good last year. Why the big change? I can tell you why, the coach.
Do you realize how young the defense is? I'm just trying to be realistic. Shafer teams have always played good defense but previously there wasn't this much youth.

Willing to overlook a "step down" in Defensive performance from previous years...but not a complete collapse.
Like I said no substitute for experience. This team has very little except for a not so good offensive line.

Well, that's just an excuse. Bottom line is UM is winning with Hoke's players, who just weren't playing to their potential...a direct result of coaching. Insert an excellent coach in Harbaugh and UM is now a completely different team. Solid coaches get the most out of their young men and coach them up. Big difference...

Shafer was here doing a huge part of the recruiting when Marrone was the coach. So technically Shafer is also responsible for leaving the cupboard bare then too.
Put Trudo back at center, and bench the rest, go with the younger linemen, Foy, Emerich, Palmer, and Robinson have been terrible the last 2 games. Eric is running for his life, way too often, these guys don't get any push at the point of attack, so teams don't respect the running attack.
He's had 2 classes that's it my friend. The cupboard was bare. There is no defending it. . You simply can't deny it. That's why there's so many 1st and 2nd year players on the field. Marrone left a weak roster and that is absolutely fact.

Not a valid excuse. This isn't the NFL with free agency and the roster turnover every year is great, the coaching staff of every college team knows exactly when each kid will leave. And it's not like SU has a plethora of kids jumping to the NFL. If the coaching staff isn't prepared for this year that's on them!
