Rumor and i must say rumor with a capital R. Still if Doug is benching Ash because of a lack of effort in practice he should be shot. We screwed up so bad with Sales it is beyond belief that doug hasnt learned that some kids are just gammers.

can you list all the kids who didn't practice hard who played great in games? perhaps if you dont work on the plays that are part of that weeks game plan you dont get in the game?

If you cut some slack for the "gamers" then you lose the sharpness of your practices. When you lose the sharpness of your practices then your whole team gets sloppy. Like it or not, HCDM has to demand good practice effort for the sake of the team.

Kevin Johnson, DC, Marvin Harrison, Bill Hurley, Rony S, Marcus Sales, Rob Carpenter, I could go on but based on being around this program longer than many have been alive those are just a few.

Wrong Doug needs to play talent. Play guys who can get it done. They dont keep score at practice.

True Bees this isnt little league. This is D1 ball. Do you think that Saben sits a kid who doesnt practice well but who is lights out on game day? I played college Bball at a pretty high level and i will tell you that we had two guys who started and where very talented that did not bring it during practice. All of us new these guys were prime time guys and we didnt care. Some kids just like practice. Im not talking about not showing up or completely dogging it. That should show you the bench. Im talking about a guy like Sales who doesnt buy into the DM boy scout bs but brings his A game on Saturdays and sits because he doesnt play the game.

we are not there in practice with them,so I don't see how we can even address this issue of opinions.

a lost thread is the way i look at it

Every coach is different. You can't compare how Mac did things to how JB does things to how Marrone does. Dougs rule is practice hard or don't play. Pretty simple.

We're talkin' 'bout practice.

Very informative thread. Thank you for starting it.

Your welcome. Just make sure that you never Dawgg it on one of your post

Its clear if you dont practice hard your not going to play, Broyld needs to bring it during the week.

Ashton is a freshman, if you don't draw a line in the sand early in his career, bad work habits will continue. Having a double standard on a team is a great way to lose the respect of your players. Can't have rules and standards and then enforce them selectively. This is coming from a coach who has worked with athletes for years.

AB isn't Lawrence Taylor. If he needs to practice hard he needs to practice hard.

couldn't disagree more. the #1 way to tear apart a team is play one kid ahead of other kids that play harder. broyld needs to buy in if he is going to be the best he can be, and if that means sending him a message as a frosh so be it. there is another kid he might want to talk to. his name is waiters, dion.

If a kid doesn't give 100% in practice and ends up only being a good player instead of a great one, that's his choice. It doesn't mean that "good" player can't help you win the game!

This isn't Alabama where these guys are expendable and can afforded to benched. If the season is on the line as if is right now, we need all hands on deck.

i thinks its 1 thing if the player has been in the program for a year or 2 and has proven that on game days hes a stud but with a freshman you have to send the message

Yeah, Ashton Broyld is the man. Completely brings it come game day. Like, I mean, he only fumbled once during a critical moment against Minnesota. Keep doing your thang, Ashton!

One thing everyone should keep in mind is that WE don't know if bad practice habits is in fact why Broyld hasn't played much.
