If Dino had hired a qualified P5 qb coach instead of his son-in-law's father, would Tommy be farther along in his development? Would there be a Tyler Van Dyke or Christian Veilleux on this roster? A kid that could've come in and helped us beat UNC over the weekend. That fiasco I can, and will, place squarely on Dino's doorstep.

The line is where the problem with Devito begins. It's a small sample size, but watch him play in 2018 and compare the poise he has in the pocket to 2019 and through one game 2020. Everyone doesn't come into a situation like Ryan Nassib did where all he had to do was not screw up. He had a ready made line, serviceable receivers and powerful HBs that could punish someone between the gaps. Even Eric Dungey's first couple of seasons were mired on bad teams that also had issues at the line which is why he ran as much as he did. Tommy has things to improve on, but I feel like people on this board are way too critical of him. The fanbase is the one who anointed him to be the next great thing since sliced bread b/c of his rating. We can dig up the threads from 2018 where Dungey played poorly (vs. Pitt, UNC) and page after page were calling for him to be put in. It's been quite the heel turn on him.

To your second point, a "qualified" P5 coach isn't going to do much to a kid that has their mind set on where they want to go and the offense they'd like to play in. If you want to make it to the next level, you're going to be attracted to a pro style system. Miami does a great job at selling their school. Even with the year they had last season, they are killing in recruiting. Penn State is a school that people dream of playing at. We can continue to hold Sandusky and Paterno over their heads, but their recent classes were kids when that happened. It has no bearing on their decision.

I mean who knows he did bring in a coach who had/has ties to a starting offensive lineman in the SEC! Maybe it’s not a “he woulda come anyway since he’s the son in law.” But we never know. Having the connection to his HS coach coulda been the straw that helped land him. Hmmmm we landed a key Olineman and had the best season we’ve had in 20 years...sounds crazy I know, but literally our season hangs on how well the oline can protect, not if Devito can throw.

if Devito trusts he’s not gonna get his head ripped off every throw, hell stay in the pocket, let the routes materialize and be able to makethe throws. He 100% doesn’t trust the oline and I don’t blame him.

Well somehow another qb can come in and spread the ball around. This year Culpepper and last year Welch. Yes both threw ints but they were willing to go through their reads and hit other receiver not named Jackson or Harris.

Well comparatively those numbers aren’t going to look good between Devito and culpepper for you.

Devito - 13/31 42% 3.6ypc and a 23.8qbr
Culpepper - 3/7 43% 3.1ypc and a 17.8qbr.

Devito hit 5 different players, while attempting to 8 overall. Culpepper throws to 5 different while completing to 2. And he throws a pick. Im sure coach Babers like Devito and the fact that he hasn't thrown a pick in games. Let’s also call out sharrod Johnson for dropping that ball in the endzone. That just can’t happen.

Yes, do I think Syracuse play calling is absolutely terrible and they need to go more screens to the backs and WRs, get more creative with reverses, and try for some deep throws, yes. I feel like we have a terrible drop back oline, but with rhino they should now be able to get outside in the screen game or pull in the run game to create something.

I’m not fully into Devito as the “guy”, but there’s little to no help on the oline to give this kid a chance. Now should we fully recruit the dual threat guy that can run over pass, yeah it’s probably gotten to that point.

But you have to consider TD played 3 1/2 quarters versus Culpepper 1/2. I also think we should see what markewitz or summers can do. Give them a couple series. Dino did the same for TD in the past.

Please spare us. It was the last drive of the game for us and UNC wasn’t trying. That’s like saying an FCS school scored 14 in the Seconr half with just freshman on the other team in

Our O-line play has been pretty bad the last couple years, but I'm starting to wonder if TD just doesn't have the "It" factor to be a productive P-5 QB. I hope I'm wrong.

My point is Tommy came in from the bullpen as a true frosh to help win games. We should have a high 3star/4star qb that could do that this year as well.
