Give it up to Shafer and the boys for using inception as the latest recruiting tool.
Is recruiting via "INCEPTION" a NCAA violation?

Yesterday, June 29th, the Syracuse University football program received a commitment from one of the most intriguing prospects in the class of 2017, Daewood Davis, Fort Lauderdale (FL) Somerset. CuseConfiential.com was able to speak with one of his coaches, Willie Hill, about the type of player that the Orange is getting.

"For 'Cuse, they are getting some speed that will not only stretch the field, but will make big plays. He will grow too, top out at around 6-foot-4. His Dad is 6-foot-5 and his Mom is 5-foot-10. All he does is football; he will be a great player in that Orange."

One of the first things that people notice about Daewood as his coach alluded to is his speed and size. Rivals has him officially clocked at 4.38 secs for his 40-yard dash and 6-foot-2, 176 pounds. That is impressive for any prospect and one that would make the fans drool, however, Davis is only a sophomore in high school and will only improve (and grow) as he gets older and develops.

"He is exceptional with still a lot of room for development," said Coach Hill. "He has great hand/eye coordination and has world class speed; he will run by anybody in South Florida. This year he will learn the tools needed to beat press man and he will learn how to fit into spacing better and to identify coverages. Once he learns the craft he needs, he will be a five-star recruit."

What many people do not know about Daewood is that he is a high character young man who is engaged both academically and athletically. According to the coach, the staff has no trouble getting him to take extra reps on the football field or into the weight room for a workout.

"Daewood is a great student, a 2.8 core GPA and he has never been arrested or in any trouble whatsoever. He is attending American Heritage High School next year and will be dominant for the next two years that the high school level. He refuses to take time off and we have to force him to not work out."

On the surface, it appears as if the Syracuse coaching staff has hit a home run with the first commit of the 2017 class. Daewood Davis is a nice compliment to the core players, such as running back Robert Washington and quarterback Rex Culpepper, that Syracuse is piecing together in the 2016 and 2017 classes.

Interesting if true.

Not one typically to be negative especially re: recruiting, but not a fan that American Heritage is coached by ex-Miami Hurricane Mike Rumph

Miami had their chance they said no thanks. It sounds like their rejection hit him so hard that I don't think he would go there if they came back to him any time soon. Rumor coaching there doesn't change that fact. Rumps being his coach could potentially increase his interest in Miami, but He loved them already. That won't change anything. Not like it makes Miami suddenly love Davis more just because his next coach is an ex-Cane

It definitely causes some worry but it's like saying we were going to get A.Brown because Madei Williams was his QB coach.. How did that turn out?

We really don't know because the staff decided on Culpepper in favor of Brown. If Miami decides to go in a different direction, like we did, it's a moot point anyway.

If you read the article in the link in posted, Davis said that he's pretty much orange to the bone and even implied that he was going to shut down his recruiting to pursue his syracuse dreams. Read the article/interview for the exact quotes etc.

Wait the staff decided on Culpepper over Brown? Pretty sure we wanted Brown and he went elsewhere then we moved on. Don't have insider knowledge so I could easily be wrong but the timeline would seem to indicate that.

I'm gonna read between the lines here I think he is flipping
He said "think" which means he's leaving the door open for something to change his mind. It's totally over flip is imminent...

Has he been to campus before?
No, trying to visit soon though. Maybe Scoop and Rex can come with to make it more tantalizing? This is going to be a long road to keep this one. Although I think if we have a great year we will see a huge spike in recruiting and prevent a lot of flips we saw to other schools. There is a lot of subdued buzz about the program and many players love everything about us but the W column. Their is a lot of gas and black powder on the pile, hopefully this season we can find the spark.:noidea:

Man oh man I wonder what some muscle and further agility/explosion/speed training will do for this kid.
