Athlon Preview Mag

If anyone knew what are Oline was gonna do they would probably have a great idea on how the season turns out. Its been the main issue for years and the hardest to over come when its not good.

At least going into this season, we appear to have an actual 2-deep + of legit P5 OL,

So that if/when there are any injury setbacks, we don’t have to rely on a converted FB (love ya, Rhino!) to take snaps in games.

Which means we have a much better chance of keeping McCord healthy for 13 games (or more),
which is Job One for this entire team.

Nassib made it thru an entire season in 2012.
It’s time for us to make that happen again w Kyle & crew.

I’d say that across the board, his weapons on O are potentially better & more plentiful than what Nassib had to work with.

I think we make some serious noise this year

And Dungy started every game in 2018: 10-3.

“Really interesting to see how this rebuild goes, but the early returns are that this dude is crazy or fearless or both. They have to overhaul how Cuse is seen nationally as well as start winning battles in places like Jersey and Pennsylvania."

"[Kyle] McCord is a better quarterback than they’ve had in years; the question is if the OL can keep him intact."

"They’ve got a few studs on defense — the safety [Justin Barron] is a legit dude."

"I’m not sure if everything clicks right away, but they should be fighting for a bowl again this season and building in recruiting for next season. They’re really rebranding the entire thing up there.”
I will be disappointed if we are “fighting for a bowl” this season.

I think we should stop talking about bows as goals for the season. It should be about regular season goals or the playoff. Our last bowl was a farce due to opt-outs and an opt-out by the West Virginia QB was a factor in the one before that. McCord could opt-out of a bowl this year.

I think with the influx of new talent and the watered-down schedule, we should be looking at 8-10 regular season wins and a shot at the playoff if we get to double figures.

If the NIL is crafted correctly opting out of the bowl game should be costly to the player

I think we'll have to finish 11-2 with our schedule...that includes a a championship appearance in Charlotte to make the playoffs.

Got my Athlon and Lindy's today. In a couple of months I'll be using them to help write my SU Football
preview. Today I just looked though a bit.

Athlon rates us #52. Ohio is #114, Georgia Tech #47, Stanford #79, Holy Cross FCS, (they don't rate FCS), UNLV #61, NC State #25, Pittsburgh #64, Virginia Tech #27, Boston College #57, California #51, Connecticut #124 and U of Miami #20. That adds up to 7-5, 3-5 in conference, FWIW.

Lindy's rates us #56. Ohio is #105, Georgia Tech #42, Stanford #75, Holy Cross FCS, (not in their FCS To 25), UNLV #78, NC State #22, Pittsburgh #66, Virginia Tech #29, Boston College #63, California #61, Connecticut #123 and U of Miami #17. That adds up to 8-4, 4-4 in conference, also FWIW.

Both have Georgia getting back to winning national championships, (I still think they might have won their third in a row if they'd been invited last year - and they would have been in with a 12 team field, as we'll have this year). Of course, they no longer have Fran Brown...

Both have the Bulldogs beating Ohio State for the title. I wonder what Kyle McCord thinks of that. Their QB is projected to be Will Howard, a Kansas State transfer.

Lindy's has Cortland State's Red Dragons as their #3 DIII team, just behind North Central and Mount Union. It's so amazing after more than three decades to remember that they won the national title last year, the first for a team from these parts since Ithaca won their third in 1991. The Bombers didn't make the Top 25.

Well, the players will be lining up to sign those deals.
You can’t make NIL contingent upon performance. It’s their name, their image, and their likeness that is being licensed, not their availability or performance.
Our QB can sell cars if he plays in a bowl or doesn’t.

I get that but playing and winning makes him more valuable with NIL selling cars.

Ok what don’t you understand about the fact that NIL can’t be tied to performance or even attendance at a certain school.
If it’s a one year deal, the next contract can be based upon past performance as that could impact popularity, sales, etc.

I don't see any SU players on the cover.

That's a deal breaker for me.

One of the top 6 most miserable days of my life
I was watching it on TV and could only feel for the Orange fans in attendance that day. I remember that week Stephen A. on ESPN was touting Cuse and predicted we'd win. I remember him saying "I'm talking to you Chris Slayton" when predicting a Cuse victory. Then the game happened. All the excitement of that week was over by the end of the 1st quarter.

Wednesday- Redeye from Alaska to NYC
Thursday- At the Blarney by 2pm. Lost to Oregon. My friends found me at Chelsea papaya at 3am pounding some epic cheese steak and a hot dog.
Friday- Woke up, Blarney by 11. Bought my return flight back to Alaska while at the bar. Lost to UConn. My friends found me laying on the sidewalk in front of Chelsea papaya at 3am, hanging with Chelsea papaya staff and eating cheese steaks.
Saturday- woke up to cheesesteak all over the hotel room. I musta brought a few back. So hung over. We tried to drink beers at the pre game spot. Switched to screw drivers once we got into yankee stadium. Proceeded to get murdered for 4 quarters. Took the train back to blarney. Had 1 jack and coke, walked home. Too hungover for cheesesteak. Hotel by 8 I think.
Sunday- take the train to Newark to fly back home. Tried to check in. Found out the flight I bought the other day, was for two weeks from now, not today. Had to buy a whole new flight back to Alaska.
Monday- threw up at work, but made it on time
