Attendance During McNabb/Post-McNabb Era

So, with a much improved product on the field and with opponents like Va Tech, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, BC, Pitt, and others, I'm confident that we can essentially sell-out the Dome.

BTW we won't be playing all those teams at home. If SU were a Top 15 team do you think we would draw 48k for Clemson, Pitt, MD, Wake, Duke, and Stony Brook? Because once every six years that will be our home schedule.

It's not like you get some stadium hookup either...granted this is a college venue but there is no club level / bar bunker/ cleaner toilet / etc that you seem to get for paying 2x as much as the guy a few yards over. I guess you get parking?

How much would SU lose $ wise if the required donation was eliminated? I know for me I would go from Director level to likely the Orange level of the OC.

Also you could just add real seating to the current A and B sections only which makes those seats more desirable. That would have little effect on BBall as those seats are not usable or long range view. It would probably take us from 49250 to 47250.

FYI

1. Cal was at 72k and this year they are at 63k. Now some of that was from renovation to reinforce the stadium. But some of that was also because they have added better seating. They added chairs to the main donor section and seat back benches with extra leg room in the secondary donor sections.

2. Stanford was at 85k and reduced to 50k. From the stadium's wiki page:
The reduction in capacity was a strategic decision by Stanford's Athletics Program to boost season ticket sales and create a more intimate playing atmosphere

3. Illinois used to be at 70k and reduced to 60k in 2008.

4. Purdue reduced from 67k to 62k in 2003. Although they have plans for adding additional seating.

5. Washington is renovating their stadium and adding some real seating. They expect to lose 2500 seats.

6. Wash St used to play in a 37,500 seat stadium until 2002. Renovations have taken that down to 32,500 seats.

7. Arizona St has plans for a new stadium that will have a smaller capacity than their current stadium.

and penn state went from 100,000 to 109,000 by making the seats two inches narrower so they can get more little boys in there the year sandusky retired.

my seats are in sec 128 and they must "B" level seats as they cost more than the "A"level seats w/o the donation.

Getting back to a discussion about Dome attendance in the late 1990s.

I did get a chance to consult a media guide.

It pretty much backed-up what I recall - for the most part, except for specific games like Temple and other lesser opponents - the Orange drew 48,000 to 49000+ during those years. Even after McNabb left we drew very well.

So, with a much improved product on the field and with opponents like Va Tech, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, BC, Pitt, and others, I'm confident that we can essentially sell-out the Dome.

I certainly see no reason to reduce capacity - exactly the wrong signal to send the college football world.
"Excepy for specific games..." proves the point that we have a large number of spectators, not fans. it needs to be an event for them to attend.
