Attendance Misconceptions

some misconception about these misconceptions.

Thereare enough holes in the data regarding strength of foe and state of the program that im not sure that i am buying all the data. I agree that the time of game may not have big influence but some of this can be easily dissected and proved invalid.

Good Stuff but as far as game times I believe later games do draw more what you need to input into that graph is the strength of the opponent.
Don't we usually have stronger opponents at night already?

Did some research of my own cancel that post ( mine not yours )

I wouldn't expect the numbers to be any different between football and basketball - because their is no difference. The problem is in the definition. SU treats football games just like they do basketball games - a field of dreams by just opening the doors thinking the people will come - nothing more, nothing less.

Where football is a religion - like Penn St, Clemson, FSU, Mich, OSU, SEC - football games are treated as a whole day memorable event. Herein lies the problem with SU - if they truly wanted the community to come and watch, then make the whole day a memorable event.

And SU I guess doesnt even advertise anymore - T minus 10 days and still nothing about the Clemson game.

Well, I think you have to hand some of the blame to ESPN and the ACC. It's hard to advertise when you have no idea when the game is. Can you imagine? - "Special deal to watch SU vs the #3 Clemson Tigers! Only we have no clue when they're playing. Saturday sometime!" My guess is you'll start to see ads when the time is released.

every team plays by the same rules here, so not sure it's a real excuse when it comes to comparing our fanbase buy-in vs those from other schools

I suppose there are some who don't want to make in all all-day event. I know basketball long-time season ticketholder diehards who don't like to tailgate for that very reason. For hoops, they park and walk up to the dome. After the game they go home. They like that.

Is there room for how the economy in CNY is doing on that graph?

Also, could you post this graph inside a picture of a trash can. I like the visual reinforcement.

I would like a graph showing the introduction of GRob to the community and how that effected the economy and the football team.

The University seems to treat the football season like we are the green bay packers and people are in line waiting for 30 years + to get a season ticket. ZERO effort. Its mind-numbing.

I bet you we lost at minimum 8k season ticket holders when Gross had his cute little fashion show with his awful new uniforms he designed with Vera Wang. I almost cried when i saw that.

There are places in college football where any attendance graph is a straight line at the top of the chart, regardless of what else you are trying to measure. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. That's a big reason why we don't have the type of football program those places have.

Very similar trends...

Paid attendance is not a joke at all. It's what every school announces. It is not "meaningless". If you sell something, do you not care how many were sold? That's meaningless? SU sells seats. They care more about how many people buy those seats than how many people actually use them. Granted, they care about both but if "fannies in seats" were the ultimate metric of success, the solution is simple...give the seats away for free (but apparently not to the students).
That's right, SU cares more about the number of tickets sold. However, a ticket left on someones dresser while they rake leaves isn't going to yell loud to increase our home field advantage or look good on TV to recruits. As a fan, those issues are more important to me.

We are in a new & better conference - better teams will be coming to the Dome - NC title contention teams with new playoff system. While I'm not suggesting we will top line every game, wouldn't it be grand to expect at least 40k min for all games and practical sellouts for games like the upcoming Clemson game?

My biggest gripe is if SU continues to do the same thing like we have always done like in the old BE conference, nothing will change and then we should expect the same result as you suggest - all based upon the vicious cycle of winning and losing versus game day memorable event where you come regardless of how the team is doing.

They need to keep improving their advertising/marketing just the same as they do the IPF, update the Dome, etc. Its all one big thing that needs to be constantly improving. Maybe they will understand this someday.

Number of tickets sold is one good barometer of the health of a program. It has meaning.

People talk about "the fan experience". The chief source of the fan experience is the fans themselves- the noise level, the sense of excitement. That's up to us.
