I am amazed at how he is still employed in any capacity when it relates to media and covering SU athletics. His radio show is unlistenable and his articles are terrible.

SU should just ban him and Lindsley from coming on campus. Mink is better than both of them, not saying he is anything great and he has only been around a year or two.

On a side note, how does an area with the top rated communications school get stuck with such garbage talent on TV, radio and in print. Amazing!

I think he made a lot of good points in that article. If you are not really going to play football, try some other things the fans might enjoy.

I actually agree. Not a huge fan of Axe but I thought he had some solid ideas.

The points he made were things that we for the most part already know SU is deficient at, like suggestions on how to make it an event.

That sandwiched between about 42 things bashing Shafer and SU. That turd would destroy any buzz that the program would have had anyway.

Same for me. I actually think his work online is a lot better than his radio work, as at least there he tends to give more of the "voice of the fan". He brought up some pretty good ideas like letting kids run some drills, and doing a merchandise discount for people who attend.

not bad ideas, but he did what a lot in media have been doing more and more and he is condescending and comes off as a about it. Some may like that schtick, but i get sick of some of these self righteous media guys.

Honestly couldn't find any fault with the article.

The overall tone of most of his writing paints the program in a bad light. That is what I don't like about him. He could have made the same suggestions without poking fun at the event, Shafer or SU.

From what I recall, the format of the Spring game has been "Blown Up" as he suggests pretty much every year. The "format" has changed every year the past 4 or so. Usually it is because the lack of players before the Freshman arrive and injuries.

I am always down for discounted merchandise, especially authentic gear. Or exclusive gear. I will give him that.

How can there be any "buzz" generated if every assclown in the media is bashing it when they write.

And freebies, don't forget the freebies!

I don't know that anyone likes the current format situation. Combine that with the choice to have the event the day before Easter and it's a clunker. I love SU football. I have had season tickets since '92 and went to most games in the dome before that. I agree that many in the media here like to be negative. (IMO, Bud is the worst) but in this case I didn't find the comments to be personally negative... and he had some good ideas. Maybe SU will at least take note.

Axe is tired. If you read his articles during the day, which I don't anymore, You'll hear the exact same takes and topics on his radio show. The only difference is there'll be some Ghostbusters and Star Wars references thrown in along the way. Honestly, I can get just about all the information Axe puts out there from either ESPN.com or Deadspin...That's why I can't believe he still has a job. 90 percent of the stuff he puts up is almost a direct link from other blogs. He's blogging about blogs.

I'm not an axe fan, I thought that article was overly personal towards the program. But that's just me. I don't like his writing style or his show.

axe is just fine, but that Lindsley guy leaves a lot to be desired, unlistenable.

It's not his job to paint the program in a good light. It is the job of the school, the team and the school's p.r. team. He doesn't work for the school. And if you want to ban someone because of their opinion, maybe you should go back to syracuse U and take a communication law and ethics class. Imagine if Presidents did that?

Axe usually tells it like it is. Lindsley is the one who's a troll.

100% Agree. The "Local Media" isn't supposed to sugar coat things for the SU Sports teams or turn a blind eye to things. That's not their job. They aren't supposed to paint a pretty picture when there isn't a pretty picture to paint.

With that said, Axe is terrible. Worse on the radio than with his writings but terrible nonetheless. And if you follow him on Twitter he says some really odd and crazy things that make me wonder if he even watches sports or is a sports fan.

He smells good and the girlies like him.

To be fair Shafer has to give something to work with. I don't see why Axe would put a happy spin on this, since it's ridiculous. And I don't get why Shafer is whining about people complaining about last years format? He must have been scrolling the PS articles looking at the comment section because I thought the format was fine.

My blind faith in Shafer is wearing thin. He needs to start giving us something to be excited about. I have yet to see anything to be positive about since he has been hired. Hopefully he can change that this season, but I am doubtful.

cant you give a detail as to why a game vs non-game makes you enjoy the event any more or less? even as a game its all about a player making a play and if the blue team does more than the orange team do you remember that or do you remember which players stand out?

You have said on the board you didn't like doing this as an open practice whereas I am greatly looking forward to it. I haven't seen college football in a few months and this will whet the appetite until Fall.

Two different feelings about the same thing. Axe can choose to spin it any way he wants, he chose to be a tool, nobody forced him.

Why is it ridiculous that a private school that costs just under $60K a year to attend does not have the numbers to have a full Spring Game? We don't have 110 kids in the Spring like Texas does with their 40 walk-ons cause school costs $5K a semester for in state residents.

I think the day before Easter makes sense, actually. People will be in town to see family and possibly go to the Dome. There is a flip side that some people will be away from Syracuse visiting family.

I never said he had to paint SU in a good light, but why is it that the overwhelming majority of the articles he writes about SU are negative?

I don't know the guy from boo. I have never listened to him. Just wanted to say that local media aren't suppose to be cheerleaders.
