Babers Clean Slate Philosophy Good or Bad?

Until HCDB methods are proven wrong I'm going to believe what the man is saying. He has been nothing but a home run for us. He has been upfront and honestly with everything he has been asked. What does he gain by lying to the fan base. HCDB knows how to get it done, just look at his last two stops. HCDB word > the collective tin foil hats of this board ;)

You do realize they will have practices before the first game, right? The games would be akin to exams and practices to class and studying. So, I'm not really sure you picked a good analogy or you think he won't watch the team at all before the first game.
u do realize that u have information/tools at hand BEFORE THE PRACTICES--which can be a valuable tool to spot a diamond in the ruff, assess skills and potential for position changes---all this with live game day experience---let see do u but a stock w/o assessing the potential???if u do give me all:)

Of course he knows something about our team. I'm sure when he got the interview he did a little research on the team. I'm sure he saw the madness that Lester was running and determined why bother grading out the players based on some weird crap that will never ever be used in our games going forward.

It's not like he's taking over a Baylor-ish program that is running something similar. When you're going to buy a BMW do you research fords? No.

Position changes can be determined by looking at size/weight/speed/drill etc. - then you get a look at them and try it in the spring.

You're making this bigger than it is. The man can coach, knows talent, has been a part of building two programs from similar spots. At the very worst he ms stretching the truth slightly to get all of the guys amped about spring ball and where they might fit.

Yep. They will evaluate the guys in their system, running the way they want it. Cream will rise to the top. It will be fair.

This will be Babers third time taking over a program,I think I trust him a little more then Greg Robinson.
More than any previous Syracuse head coach since Mac, possibly Ben.

Much ado about nothing. It isn't his first rodeo. He is extremely confident in his ability to assess his team based on what he sees live in practice- in fact, he mentioned in one of his first interviews that this is a part of the process he enjoys most when first taking over a new team. Figuring out the pieces of the puzzle.

Film or no film it's a clean slate. He can watch film and still say, and live up to, everybody starting anew.

I think he had to look at some film just to assess what he had for recruiting purposes. I think it's just coach speak and a way to reinforce the clean slate comments.

I trust Dino 100% but I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't at least take a peek at the offensive skill talent that he is inheriting! Yes, last years team played with different coaching philosophies but effort, speed, and hands for wrs and game management, accuracy, and saviness for a qb is universal in football. The curiosity alone!

Probably spot on.

It's a second chance for players to reinvent themselves. Any players that got reputations with the previous staff for being lazy get a fresh start to earn new reputations as hard workers in the eyes of the new staff.

Once you have an impression of someone, they have to do something to change that impression, and first impressions are the strongest.
Also, why watch film if you are not going to take something away from it.

Having locker room issues with a division between "his guys", the veterans on the team and the coaching staff would set the program backwards, regardless how good Coach Babers plan for the future is. He has his work cut out for him to make sure he gets the veterans buy in , earning their trust, being fair on his evaluations particularly with the wholesale changes he's spoken about.

Again, you're missing the fact that he will have ample time to review the team and make personnel decisions based on spring football and preseason practices.

I dont think they need to watch the film until after the spring practices. they will need to watch some to prepare for teams they play next year. but to install a new system not really. guys need to show up and work hard.

I think that he is correct in stating that everyone is starting fresh. I think that he is full of that he hasnt looked at film

What information is he going to glean watching players playing in a different system, with different coaching? Answer: nothing that wouldn't be better observed with his own eyes, when he has the team / players doing the things that HE wants them to do, and that his system demands that they do.

Clean slate, and he'll get his evaluation up close and personal once spring ball commences. And you can rest assured that THOSE sessions will be taped / analyzed at great length.

Speed, strength, agility, durability, courage, intelligence, football savvy.

Systems are overrated.

Physical talent and game intelligence are very important.

Watching a player compete at game speed reveals a lot, regardless of the system he is asked to implement.

When I am preparing for a competition I want as much information on the subject of my event as I can possibly get.

I hope as others have suggested that Dino is being a bit political

For about half the roster that played, and not informative at all for the other half.

And those are all things that will MUCH BETTER gauged by first hand observation, when Babers has the kids doing the things he actually wants them to do, and not a bunch of ineffectual stuff that the last coaching staff had them doing that will have little bearing on how they'll be asked to play moving forward.

He'll get all the information he needs during spring practice.

Systems are overrated.

Bunk.

Man, if systems are overrated we just made a horrible hire.
I know OPA isn't saying this, but it's just such a funny contradiction.

Systems are overrated... but some people hate the Tampa 2.

Systems are overrated... but we should play a ball control offense based on option.
