Babers Clean Slate Philosophy Good or Bad?

Yes, but I'll take talent over scheme in every instance.

Maybe we are quibbling. But in my view talent is more important than scheme.

And Syracuse University BB is a good example of that.

When we have talented players we win and when we have less talented players we don't win as much.
Hopkins went 4-5 with the same talent and players as Boeheim who went 13-3.....:noidea:

There could be a number of reasons for that.

Are you suggesting that Boeheim runs a different offensive or defensive system than Hopkins ran?

Or is it possible that the team is just getting better due to the maturing of the frosh and the continued recovery of Dajuan Coleman?

If I am coaching against Syracuse University next year and somebody offers me all the game and practice video I want from 2015 - I take it all and I review every second of it.

I tried to sit on the sidelines; I really did.

But the above post is one of the most off-the-wall opinions I've read in here - ever.

What could any coach legitimately discern about Dino Babers' 2016 Syracuse team by watching any of the 12 games coached by Scott Shafer in 2015 - let alone ALL of them?

Watching even 10 minutes from any one game would be an epic waste of time.

Now, do I think opposing coaches will watch film of Dino's BG team?

Absolutely. No doubt about it.

Because even with 85 different players in orange, brown and white uniforms as opposed to orange and blue, watching BG run their spread last season can be extremely helpful in demonstrating how SU will play MOVING FORWARD.

Formations, specific packages, play calling patterns, receiver routes and blocking schemes that SU will likely implement in 2016 can all be noted by watching 2015 BG

There's nothing for opposing coaches to learn by watching 2015 SU get run out of South Florida in the 2nd half or even hanging tough with LSU & Clemson... Nothing.

Do you really think ANY of the Buffalo Bills 2015 opponents watched tape of Doug Marrone's 2014 Bills? Absolutely not. They watched film of Rex Ryan's Jets... Because preparing for SCHEME and SYSTEM are exponentially more important than preparing for specific players.

It bothers me a little that he acts like he's reinvented the game and nothing that happened before him matters. Doesn't he look at film to evaluate recruits? He wouldn't be looking for how plays work. He's be looking for the physical capabilities of the players.

That said, if score 35 a game next year and wind up in a bowl game, what he said about the roster when he showed up isn't going to cross my mind.
He's inheriting a team of 70 or so players, what does that have to do with evaluating film of future recruits for his system(which i'm sure he does)?

Upon further review, I think it's pretty clear that he has his staff watching film from last year for pertinent info and he is employing coach speak to send a message to the guys on the team.

All the rest is just fear of the unknown.

No, but see, I am. That is exactly what I'm suggesting.
Andy Dick could pull in 80 catches in Babers' system

I agree here...HCDB said what he said to let the players know everyone is starting fresh (he will give everyone a fair shake). The Assistants will watch the old games and draw opinions on the strengths/weaknesses of the players show in the games...essentially put the players in the best spots to help the growth of the team.

If HCDB isn't winning by year 3, then folks can have at it about his method/tactics etc. Until then it's "full speed ahead".

Well said and agreed.
There's so much FAIL throughout this thread, it's hard to comprehend why.
