Babers presser thread

From the sounds of the way Dino spoke about defense I think he gets how the Syracuse fans love an aggressive style of defense too. We can have both you know in this dome.

Can you just imagine the conditioning the scout team will be in practicing against that insane offense where they don't stop and correct mistakes during practice, but instead correct them in film studies.

He will be recruiting very cerebal players to understand this offense for sure.

BG, Who do you think will be your next HC?

I have no idea honestly. Our AD, Chris Kingston likes to keep things very close to the vest so I suspect we won't hear much until the day before the announcement is made. Dino was considered an outside candidate by most in 2013 just because he was polar opposite of what Dave Clawson was but Kingston did what he felt was best for the program and hit a home run. Most BG fans want us to keep a similar offense but Kingston won't be scared to change things up again.

My personal faves are either Bob Stitt from Montana or John Grass from Jacksonville State.

Correct, the BG OL this year actually dropped weight to be more agile to run the offense as they felt their size hindered them from running things as quickly as they would have liked in 2014.

Edinger has some videos up through the BGSU Athletics YouTube page from workouts over the spring and summer if you're curious of what he preaches.
He is also a Pat Ivey disciple who won last years award for being the best in the business. Haven't officially heard he has been let go from Mizzou yet.Sounds like Odom and Ivey don't get along well.

I like Stitt, mainly because, again, the coaching world is so small. I mentioned in another thread, three of the football coaches I work with (I'm at a D3 school in Texas) have all coached with/against Ward before (our head coach coached against him and is good friends with him from their JUCO coaching days in Arizona, and two others were on Ward's staff at McPherson). Well, Stitt was on the staff here back in the 90s as the OC, while our current head coach was the DC. Stitt later took him to Colorado Mines (he then came back to become the head coach here).

Like I said: college coaching is a small world. But everyone here LOVES Stitt. My boss (now our AD) was the HC when Stitt was his OC here.

BGSU's current Director of S&C is Sean Edinger:

I thought this part of his bio is interesting:
He has more than 18 years of experience in martial arts and was a United States National Karate Team Member for five years.

To Bees' point above, it seems that, based on his personal experience, that bulk is not prioritized as highly as flexibility.

This is the trend in athletics. Take a read of Stanford's S&C coach.

taking me too literally. Words are words. I love this guy b/c of what he did on the field. I'm 110% behind this decision and what he's saying. I have tremendous faith we got our #1 guy for once.

That's ok. I'll be "That guy"...

I'm expecting 7-5, same as I would have expected for Shafer for next year.

On the hoops board, people get super excited about incoming freshmen based on high school highlight tapes..

Here, they get super excited about the incoming football coach...Poeple were all excited about Shafer also and that didn't work out too well...

I really hope this guy gets it done...between SU and the Giants, it has one been one really long, really tough football season...

But I'm not high-fiving the ceiling (although I did like that post - neat reference) or anything else until I actually see us turn it around on the field and not just at a press conference...

Bud poops in his own nest.

I think he might regret saying that.

He's taking all the guys he worked with at EIU. Mike Mickens and Nick Monroe were Clawson holdovers that he gave jobs to and I agree it's a rather short-sighted statement to make, especially after those guys helped you win a conference championship. But, that's Dino.

go after that FCS guy from Eastern Washington.

Maybe Jekelish knows this. He mentioned that taking current verbals from BG is taboo, and he won't do it. He also mentioned antone who has de comitted and current targets are fair game. Anyone we should be keeping an eye on?

Yeah, there are a couple guys in the recruiting forum. Terrance Landers hasn't decommitted yet but said on Twitter that he wants to take an official to SU now. He's a 6-4 WR, 3-stars, offers from Iowa and Pitt as well. Evan Foster is a 6-2 defensive back who just decommitted this morning, he's another potential one to watch.

Without a doubt he'll be bringing his co-OCs, Sean Lewis and Mike Lynch. I'd also suspect his DC Brian Ward will be coming along as well after the BG bowl game is done. Other than that, I don't have much of an idea. A couple of position coaches were retained from Clawson's staff when he came in 2013 so I don't know if those guys are going to be moving on. One guy to keep an eye on is Nick Monroe as he recruited Florida very heavily for BG and brought in some talented guys.
Maybe he can snag the DC at Toledo (Heacock). Quite a season that Candle put together. They put a hurting on BG.

It sound like the DC, Brian Ward did well this year, but he's coaching the Bowl game...so I suspect he may be staying put.
Fine, grab Heacock from Toledo.

Could be. I was surprised at the statement in such a great PC. Rather harsh if you're one of the coach(es) left behind. Looking forward to, as Igor would say, "Dino ball". :D
