like all of you i am thrilled with the new hire.call me a dinosaur, but i am very leary of the philosophy that if you hire recruiters they can recruit anywhere. that is true for the big time power houses not su. i say this as most of you know i am real big on recruitng nj,l.i., and nyc. most of the big time powerhouses recruit nj. babers stated in his presser we need to get nj. we have acosta on staff that has made significant in roads BACK into nj. i would like him to be retained.this is part of our "backyard" which we need .true, if we are winners it will be easier to do so, but right now we are not. i hope acosta is retained. i believe rutgers may hire him which imho is definitely not a good thing

We need NJ but I happen to agree with Babers that a good recruiter can recruit anywhere. Look at Orgeron, nothing slows that dude down and he recruits everyone everywhere and everywhere he coaches.

A salesman doesn't lose his ability to sell because he is in a Wisconsin living room instead of a NJ living room.

Say goodby to Acosta. Let him move on. There are other people who can recruit

Holding onto the last semblance of the Shafer staff.

I am more interested in what is going to happen with Cole Dial and Eric White than Acosta.

Are they in jeopardy? I assumed they have been retained.

In fairness, what Acosta was doing in nj was working (based on what Strickland showed on the field, and the other prospects in the 2015 class) and if Babers wanted to retain him, many here would have applauded.

But what we might lose in NJ, Babers and his staff will make up in other regions. One of his guys will have to build back into NJ and Eastern Pa.

You guys are wayyyy too focused on one guy. There are lots of recruiters in the sea.
Northeast recruiting ties tho!

I don't follow recruiting as closely as I used to but I don't see a whole lot of studs from New Jersey on the current roster. Deleone used to dominate down there. Maybe we're doing better now than we were during the Gerg years but maybe that has little to nothing to do with Acosta and more to do with other factors that the new coaching staff can take advantage of and use to rebuild that pipeline.

wasnt the bigger issue SU showing the NJ coaches a commitment to the area? if someone at SU reaches out and shows they care about getting kids then we will be fine. the same or the NY kids.

I agree with you in that I would've liked to see Acosta retained - why find a guy to try to work your way back in when there's already a guy who has the connections? That being said - I've never been part of a major college football program or created a coaching staff. It seems a lot of coaches do this when they take over a program, and when there have been holdovers from prior staffs here previously, they usually don't last beyond a season - so there must be something to creating a clean slate. (maybe if there's a holdover from the previous staff, the players will have too close of a bond with that position coach and not fully buy in to the new staff?)

I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If the new staff puts a compelling product on the field, and the current NJ players on the roster to help build connections - then SU won't be getting shut out of NJ again like after P was let go.

getting a few NJ recruits was good, but at the end of the day...we were still getting our arses kicked there.

start over...

and beat nd...

It's actually crazy (and I'm guilty of this too) that we got a little taste of success in Jersey recruiting and immediately think "Acosta is the only person that can do it" even though he had good success but not great success. I think as long as the staff puts its best foot forward there we can continue doing what we're doing. I don't think BA leaving will hurt us as much as we're making it out to be.

Exactly. The key is having a NJ specific guy - it doesn't have to be Acosta.

I don't give a flying flip what Rutgirls does as a result of what we do.

Love that Babers has seemingly taken control and assuming the accountability that comes with it.

The bath water was making the baby sick and wasn't the new coach's baby. I think the message Babers and whoever "new" he sends to recruit NJ will have such a different story to tell it might not even sound believable coming from Acosta's mouth.

Recruiting ties are nice to have, especially when the program you are trying to sell isn't particularly impressive compared to the competition. However, a rapport can quickly be built if Dino implements a unique and successful system (not to mention that we don't know if he'll bring in someone with longstanding ties to NJ or any other traditional recruiting area until the staff is complete). Remember, it's a feather in the cap of HS coaches to be able to point out their players that are making waves in D-1 programs of note. If SU becomes the offensive dynamo school in the NE, those coaches aren't going to ignore us because none of the staff used to party at the Shore back in the day.

we had lots of success in the past when we were good with a roster with many jersey guys---we got shut out--acosta was re-establishing us there. if we are winners we eventually get them back. in the mean time we need to keep after it
